Scorpio, 8th house and Pluto Black magicA little bit of black magic is mixed in with the astrological meanings behind Scorpio, the 8th house and Pluto, and it often involves themes of walking through the fires of hell; an opportunity for a magical transformation and being reborn again. Perhaps by necessity there are some hefty descriptions, metaphors and symbols allocated to the Plutonian kind of astrology patterns in the natal chart.

Black Creativity

Many of these people need some kind of creative activity to express and give form to their deepest thoughts and feelings. A lot of psychic and controlling tendencies are associated with Scorpio, the 8th house and Pluto: The dark arts, hypnotic control, psychic attack, voodoo and black magic.

We Astrologers associate Sagittarius and Jupiter with the aspect of  good fortune, benefits and luck in life. Scorpio (preceding sign) is linked to trauma, death, crisis and plain old bad-luck. How much of a person's destiny is changed is perhaps in our own hands. It might help to gain a psychological awareness of such patterns running through our horoscope.

Transforming Relationships

Forgive me father, for I have sinned, but god damn! Why do I keep falling for Scorpio types? Every partner I have had an intimate relationship with has had either Sun, Moon or Ascendant in Scorpio. Those Plutonians have worked some of their sexy black-magic over me, and the pull is irresistible. Natally I have Venus square Pluto and prone to falling under Hades hypnotic gaze,  penetrating force and his physical magnetism. Do Scorpio’s really possess a kind of magic, the kind that makes icy shivers run up and down your spine, and a peculiar form of black magic that they weave so well?

Still, for all of Scorpio's allure, appeal and intrigue I have often felt cursed by ex-Scorpio lovers after a falling out, and have had the feeling that they could probably strike me down dead with one icy-cold stare. I have found that with Scorpio types they almost dare you to cross them by sending out a psychic warning that you will pay the price for it.

We all have the ability to sense negative energy, especially when other people hold ill-will towards us, and intense feelings directed our way retain an extreme amount of power. A Scorpio out for revenge may seem as if they are out to cause you deadly harm, but aren't there times in life that most of us wish ill on others because they have treated us so badly, hurt us deeply or even someone we love. On a purely psychological level, Scorpio the 8th house and Pluto need some sense of retribution, and a feeling that justice has been served.

According to psychological astrology the 8th house and Pluto are significators of “The Family Curse”. I would even take a wild stab in the dark and guess that many people who feel that their lives have been cursed are either powerfully Scorpio, 8th house or Pluto individuals. This belief might reflect on the old biblical saying that the sins of the father are revisited on the son, but there are people who feel that they are carrying negativity or a family curse that is preventing them from success. Usually family members pass on this feeling that the family is cursed in some way, and impressionable children find it difficult to let go of this energy.

However, how do we explain why some people really do have a run of bad-luck that cannot be explained, and their kind of "fate" may involve painful separations, death, divorce, or the destruction of everything that is valued in life. Even multiple divorces are thought to be a generational curse on a family, and these people may have had parents who went through the same thing, and something negative keeps forcing them apart. Take Elizabeth Taylor, (married 8 times) she has an 8th house Pluto (destiny) square a Venus-Uranus conjunction (Venus rules relationships). If we look back on her dramatic and colourful life experiences it would appear that part of her fate involved sudden separations, domestic abuse, compulsive relationships, and even the death of a partner.

The curse of the Kennedy family brought about much speculation on the nature of a family’s biological inclination towards trouble by drawing all kinds of catastrophes in their lives. Although I feel it may involve stopping a negative cycle, and healing some kind of family rift, past trauma or crisis. It is like the negative cycle of abuse, violence, substance or alcohol misuse that is passed down through family members. A family curse is described as a bondage passed down from one generation to the next, and it might well be about taking back our personal power. The placement of Pluto in the natal chart and the aspects it forms may make us feel as if we are damned to some kind of bad fate in this area. We even curse our misfortune, bad luck and disasters.

Astrologer Linda Goodman called Scorpio - victims of their own black magic:

With them supreme self-sacrifice becomes neurotic concerns about the self, and psychic abilities become fearful apprehensions of the lurking evils which may strike you at any moment.

The rituals of black magic reflected the individuals desire to control universal forces larger than himself. By learning and uniting the specific methods, techniques and rituals of black magic, this individual effected a transformation of his egocentric desire: By Jeff Green, Pluto and the Evolutionary Journey

It is believed that black magic is a form of psychic control, but it all depends how we define black magic. James Van Praagh with his stellium of planets in the 8th house and his renowned psychic communication with the dead, could be described as practicing a form of black magic and might even be accused of possessing some kind of occult power. I once watched a film about psychics and many of these people felt their profound gift was a curse on their lives. The power may have inherited from their grandmother or some other relative in the past, but they often felt that having such insight into the other side of life was a curse and not a blessing.

If the forces of Scorpio are frustrated, the way to success is barred, there is usually a recourse to cunning, duplicity, secretiveness and treachery, if for no other reason than that the expression of influence and the attainment of ones rights is an absolute necessity, without which there is always, as is obvious the tendency toward envy, malice, revenge, which have been such active motives in past times, when so many people suffered abominably from misuse of power.
Black magic or witchcraft belongs here, while I do not mean to go into the question as to how much truth there may be in the possibility of hurting or destroying others by such sinister means, except to remark that we know little about the “project magnetism” or individuals, it is true that witchcraft was assigned as the cause of many misfortunes whose origins was totally misunderstood. That people do sometimes affect one another to an extraordinary degree is indisputable, as, for instance, in the case of love or hatred. By Walter H Sampson - Zodiac a Life Epitome
