Jupiter Conjunct Uranus: Best Break-through Performance

Jupiter conjunct uranus thank your lucky stars
Transits between Jupiter and Uranus are sometimes prominent when an up and coming star gets his or her first major break-out role. The conjunction signifies greater independence, progress and unexpected opportunities. Breakthroughs occur in science, astrology, computers, electronics and higher mathematics. All these subjects benefit greatly during these periods and we often see leaps in technological advancement.

The conjunction between these planets is often hanging around when lucky opportunities, sudden strokes of luck and discoveries appear. We break through barriers, knock down doors, and our full potential is explored. The meaning in life may be found through unorthodox studies such as astrology. Erbetin named it ‘the Thank the Lord’ configuration. On a mundane level we experienced Man walk on the Moon in 1969. The first Sheep was cloned under the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Aquarius in 1997. The extremely popular horoscope site Astrodienst formed under a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in 1983.

Astrologer Liz Greene was also introduced to astrology during a transit of Jupiter-Uranus which formed a conjunction in Gemini in the 7th house. After a meeting with Mrs Hickey, she was urged to explore astrology further. Today she is considered a leading expert in the field and has benefited many astrology students.

Quote from "Astrology of Fate" by Liz Greene:

Naturally I was quick to inspect the transits and progressions in operation at the time of my meeting with Mrs Hickey and its subsequent repercussions. The most striking transit at work was Jupiter passing through Gemini and making a direct station on my natal Uranus in the seventh house. This is a classic interpretation of a 'fated' (or synchronous) encounter, which brought opportunities in its wake but left my life as quickly as it had come. I have learned since to pay close attention to the transit of Jupiter, for although they often pass quickly and without noticeable concrete benefits for the person who is waiting for heaven to shower manna on him, they often coincide with opportunities which can greatly expand one's vision and understanding. But one must act on such openings which appear in the curtain that masks the inner world. We might do well to remember Zeus, who with lightning quickness pursues and mates his chosen paramours, and then vanishes as quickly, leaving them fertilized with a semi-divine child to bear.
In addition, this is an exciting, and wonderfully liberating time, and we feel youthful, exuberant, creative, adventurous and are genuinely excited about the future. Fresh opportunities abound, and this is the time to break out of a rut and get involved with projects and people.

Megan Fox’s role in the box office smash Transformers, as the lead female character, propelled her to instant fame, and she had her face all over television, magazines and bedroom walls. The part was described as her ‘breakout role. In 2007, when the dark haired beauty was cast as Mikaela Banes, transiting Jupiter was conjunct Uranus in Sagittarius.

The movie Twilight was released on November 21st 2008. Robert Patterson, gained the role of lead Vampire (Edward Cullen). Transiting Uranus was conjunct his natal Jupiter on the night of the premiere. The star is now massively popular amongst teenage girls, and a DVD was released called Robsessed!

The other massive teen sensation Justin Bieber was discovered sometime in 2008, and he later signed a record deal when transiting Jupiter was forming a conjunction to his natal Uranus. The young star exploded internationally and has since become a massive success with many adoring teenage fans.

Mars in Sagittarius: Moral Outrage

Over The last weekend I have felt Mars in Sagittarius’ bluntness, judgement and moral outrage. I have a Moon-Mercury conjunction in Pisces and Mars has been directly squaring it. I don’t over-analyze minor transits or talk about daily astrology. However, Mars in Sagittarius hit me squarely in the face. Mars square both Moon and Mercury suggests emotional anger, arguments and disagreements. Mars gives extra fighting energy to Sagittarius and can even create moral outrage in areas concerning education, politics or religion. Since the beginning of November, Mars entered Sagittarius and its dispositor, Jupiter is in conjunction with Uranus, a rebellious and progressive aspect. The London riots kicked off and they were in opposition to the spending cuts to further education and increased tuition fees. It was the largest student protest in a decade.

I won’t go into the details of what happened to me personally, but I slammed the phone down, bumped into an opinionated woman who felt she was self- righteous enough to get on her high horse and decided to give me some child-raising tips. I also got angry over the greed of a family member. Although in retrospect, I may have over-reacted to the latter. I am not giving Mars in Sagittarius a hard time and it was only due to its square to my natal conjunction that issues flared up. Natally, Mars in Sagittarius is enthusiastic about their beliefs and motivated by ideals and fiery principles. Looking at the experience positively, I learned some more astrology and should learn how to be better prepared for unjustified attacks. At the weekend, I was fired up over these issues and so experienced the brunt or brute and inconsiderate force of Mars in Sagittarius. I am sure other people with Mutable planets (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) may have experienced something similar or perhaps viewed the encounter as a learning pursuit.

John Lennon: Imagine

Imagine was released in 1971, it is ranked as the 3rd greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone. The natal chart of John Lennon speaks volumes about why this song was written and why he believed it was as good as anything else that was produced by the Beatles. The song was inspired by a poem written in Yoko Ono’s 1964 book Grapefruit. John believed that we are all one country, religion, and one people. Lennon had his chart ruler Mars in Libra conjunct Neptune in Virgo. Neptune represents the principle of dissolving boundaries and it is often boundaries between countries that separate and even define us all as separate nations. The planet is also characterised by its boundless sympathy and is representative of inspired artists, talented actors and actresses, musicians, poets, addicts, idealization, dreaming and dissolution. Mars in Libra expresses their personal drive in a civilized and ethical cooperative manner and works best involved in partnership or group activities. The Mars- Neptune conjunction fights for non-violence and represents the archetypal spiritual warrior. Conversely, its not that all person’s with Mars aspecting Neptune are all non-violent, sometimes anger spills out everywhere, and the feeling of impotence and weakness, often reveals anger that is expressed unconsciously, and in an indirect or deceptive manner. Lennon experimented with LSD which according to his biographer brought him close to erasing (Neptune) his identity (Mars). The transits in 1971 when the album was released, show that Pluto was conjunct his Mars-Neptune conjunction creating extreme and intensified feelings towards his spiritual goals and evolution.

John’s murder in 1980 occurred under the mundane Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Libra. I talked about the conjunction regarding the marriage between Prince Charles and Lady Diana; it represented social economics and a peaceful worldview. It seems contradictory that I would be talking about the murder of John Lennon under the same conjunction. However, following his death, Imagine re-entered the chart at number one for four weeks. Thousands of people paid their respects to him and his values of peace and love. Transiting Pluto in Libra was also conjunct John’s Sun on the Descendant (others). Pluto transits can attract obsessive types, stalking and destructive individuals, it is also indicative of personal transformation in behaviour and lifestyle, ego death and massive changes. The individual may also be involved in power-struggles with men, who are jealous, manipulative and power-hungry.

Mercury in Cancer

A person with Mercury in Cancer understands and receives information subtly and instinctively. The memory is often highly retentive; it is also likely that they absorb information from the environment. There is often a strong artist’s sense for visual imagery, poetry and music. Mercury here is an attentive and sensitive communicator, but the conveying of facts is often coloured with emotion and it may be difficult to articulate ideas and perceptions objectively. The individual may have an interest in history, antiques and the continuity of the past. Mercury in Cancer learns best when the focus is on human needs and feelings, many are natural psychologists and it often does not require a professional degree. A sympathetic view is usually given freely; they listen and respond well to the feelings of others.

The mind is focused on home, family and personal issues, and they focus a great deal on safety and security. Sometimes the views are quite traditional and conversations always reflect back to the past, so forward thinking cause’s apprehension and worry. Mercury in Cancer also has a tendency to take differing opinions as a personal attack or criticism. The imagination can work overtime, all too often negatively. Views are also expressed cautiously and new perspectives appear threatening until the individual has had time to become more familiar and comfortable with an idea. Verbal expression tends to be defensive, protective and highly reactive; sometimes they appear withdrawn and hardly talk at all.

The individual is a sensitive and gentle speaker and may talk about family, security, care and emotional states frequently. Usually they remember what people say and often bring up information from the past with ease. Those with Mercury here write imaginatively, drawing the reader into his or her private world. Words can be comforting, assuring and familiar. Mercury in Cancer has a way of transporting us back to childhood. Thought patterns are often influenced by the past and impressions received from the environment.

Irish Play writer George Bernard Shaw, was born a Gemini rising (writing and communication) with Sun and Venus in Leo in the 3rd house (writing and communication) and had Mercury in Cancer in his 2nd house (chart ruler). George co-founded the school for social economics, which conducts research in accounting and finance (2nd) anthropology, history, psychology and sociology. Shaw examined marriage, government, health care and class privilege.

Cheryl Cole: The Flood

I watched Cheryl Cole’s video for The Flood  yesterday, from her second album, Messy Little Raindrops. I thought it was beautiful and visually stunning. The video contains scenes of the sea and underwater-like imagery. It obviously appeals to my natal  Moon in Pisces square Neptune. Neptune was officially discovered in 1846. Mythological Neptune is the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Poseidon, ruler of the sea and brother Zeus (Roman: Jupiter). In modern astrology the planet Neptune rules Pisces, the traditional domain of Jupiter. Wherever Neptune is on the chart, there is often idealism about an area not found anywhere else. Neptune’s main characteristics are the disillusion of boundaries and it can indicate great compassion, sensitivity and empathy. Artistic inspiration, musical talent and a rich dream life may be indicated by Neptune. Its Negative manifestations include over-idealization or worship, delusion, deception, neediness, martyrdom and identifying with the role of the victim. Neptune rules anything to do with sea, floods, actors, movie, fashion, chaos and secretly undermining activities or influences. The magic of art, cinema and music provide a refuge from life’s coarseness, taking us into the imaginable realm.

The mythology of Neptune begins with the mythology of water. In astrological symbolism, Neptune is the ruler of Pisces, the third sign of the watery trigon; and the god after whom the planet is named is the lord of the ocean depths. But even if this planet had been called by another name, the language of water arises spontaneously on the lips of those experiencing important transits and progressions involving Neptune. Over and over again I have heard people completely unfamiliar with astrology describe their feelings and perceptions at such critical times with images such as drowning, flooding, drifting, dissolving, swamped, inundated, and flowing with the current. Their dreams at these junctures also reflect the domain of water: tidal waves, sinking ships, leaking pipes and overflowing toilets, flooded houses, torrential rain. Pluto in Virgo

Pluto transited through Virgo between 1956 and 1972. It was during this time that the contraceptive pill was introduced, representing the power of the feminine (Virgo) and sexual freedom (Uranus-Pluto). However, it also brought more health concerns about sexually transmitted diseases. It became more important to understand the relationship between the mind, body and environment.

Pluto changed attitudes to all Virgo spheres - work, health and everyday habits, and the transit helped to heal past abuse of the earth's resources. Psychological growth occurred in areas of purification, health, and self-improvement. Society learned new techniques and methods to improve life, and this whole generational cycle dredged up inadequate services and systems. In the area of health and by 1956 a new drug to fight Polio was used, it is a viral disease that affects the nervous system and causes complete paralysis and death. A major environmental  disaster struck on March 18, 1967, the super tanker Torrey Canyon, carrying 120,000 tons of oil, smashed into a rock in England. Instantly, its 31 million gallons oil began to leak out into the sea, destroying (Pluto) the majority of marine life, contaminating the water and creating a major environmental (Virgo) hazard.

“The people of the 1960’s weren’t yet aware of what the “Atom Bomb” had really done, what pollution would mean, what a disgusting world was being created. They were too busy watching everything beautiful. It was foretaste, according to Nostradamus, of what would come again much later. In addition, there was a most interesting and unusual planetary conjunction in the heavens of the 1960’s, a Uranus/Pluto conjunction in Virgo, the sign of daily life, natural law, and the cycles of nature. This conjunction reflected a period of radical change in thinking about the quality of daily life and certainly can be tied with the whole concept of “flower-power”.

Black People on the Buses

In 1956, when Pluto had entered Virgo at 0 degrees (sign of service), federal ruling ended segregation on public buses. It took a great deal of organization, since most black people (Pluto) depended on the bus service to get them to work, and the white city officials did everything in their power to make it difficult, including prosecuting the black cab services that had begun to charge a 10-cent-fare (the same as bus fare). There were several acts of violence and various attempts at negotiation that amounted to nothing. During the time of this racial conflict, transiting Jupiter was in the sign of Libra at 0 degrees (growth through justice and equality) and Neptune (erosion of boundaries) was transiting in Scorpio (Pluto’s sign).

Social Unrest

In 1963, when Uranus formed a conjunction to Pluto in Virgo, the U.S President, John F. Kennedy was assassinated by a gunman as he travelled in his car from the Airport to downtown, Dallas, Texas. Everything from the environment, civil rights and politics in general became open to reform. Uranus rules political figures, anarchy, and sudden events and Pluto is the planet of destruction and endings. John had represented vibrant hope and progress (Uranus) to a new generation of American’s, so his death (Pluto) struck a terrible grief to the nation. Martin Luther King, Civil Rights Activist (Uranus) was also shot dead on the balcony of his motel.

New Wave of Astrologers

However, it was was during the late 1960's and 70's during the Uranus-Pluto conjunction that a new wave of astrologers such as Liz Greene, Stephen Arroyo, Robert Hand and many more revolutionised astrology through psychological and modernised  writings. This coupled with the early use of astrological programmes written for the general public.

The great changes that occurred under the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the 1960s and the emergence of ‘NewAge’ thought. Rudhyar coined the term ‘transpersonal astrology’, injecting judiciously selected elements of Jungian psychology into what is essentially Alice Bailey’s Theosophical framework of the evolution of the soul, and emphasising the possibility of spiritual freedom from what he calls the ‘socio-cultural patterns of the past’. This is a quasi-psychological, quasi-spiritual astrology expressed in the 20th century language of New Age culture, which still proves inspirational to a great many astrologers, particularly in America. Pluto in Libra

Pluto was in Libra between 1971 and 1984 and reflected deep changes in our ideas about marriage, love and human relationships. Sexual equality and the ease of divorce were two of the profound changes which occurred during this generational transition of partnerships. Pluto is known as the timekeeper of the collective, and Pluto's transit in Libra signified the death of relating according to a complacent set of values. Pluto destroys, breaks down old forms and reveals a more honest way to relate (Libra). Libra rules relationships, not only marriage but world relationships, diplomacy between countries, alliances, peace, bridge-building and political parties. Pluto through Libra altered relationships significantly and was prominent at the rise of the feminist movement. Pluto was in Libra in 1979, when Margaret Thatcher became the first lady Prime Minister in England. Transiting Pluto was conjunct the British Descendant in Libra. Evolutionary astrologers would describe Pluto’s conjunction on the cusp of Libra, to signify forced lessons of equality. The Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay Acts also came into force in the U.K in 1975.

An individual born with Pluto in Libra belongs to a generation of people whose sense of survival depends on creating new ideals of human relationship and transforming the structure of laws and legal systems that breed inequality. Pluto in Libra rules the collective shadow of relations in all its forms. It rules what we want to eliminate and what we haven’t sufficiently dealt with. It describes what we haven’t faced honestly and hidden under the proverbial rug. Homosexual relationships at this time were becoming more recognised, Gay Rights and people who live together as a married couple were also given more importance. And relationships fraught with power-struggles were no longer tolerated now that divorce was an option.

The film Clockwork Orange was released with Pluto’s early entrance into Libra. Uranus (anarchist/social change) was also transiting through Libra. The film concerns a delinquent whose pleasures are listening to classical music, rape and gang violence. The movie explored the Librian dilemma about goodness, civil behaviour and abusing liberties. In Northern Ireland, 28 civil rights members were shot by soldiers of the British Parachute Regiment. Fourteen of the protesters died, six of them were teenagers. The incident became known as ‘Bloody Sunday’.

On a side note, the World Trade Centre (Twin Towers) was officially opened in New York City on April 4, 1973. Transiting Saturn was at 15 Gemini (sign of the Twins). At the time of The Twin Towers Saturn Return and the opposition between Saturn and Pluto, it brought extreme terrorists that hijacked four passenger planes and crashed two of them into the twin towers. Both towers collapsed within two hours.

Royal Wedding - Jupiter-Saturn: England's Natal Chart

Kate Middleton looking posh outside buckingham palaceThe wedding of Prince William has been set for the 29th of April 2011. The mundane Jupiter- Saturn opposition will be in force, and as I said in my previous post, the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Libra in 1981, marked the much anticipated marriage (Libra) between Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Although the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction often carries greater weight in mundane astrology, the opposition aspect still foretells events connected with social order, religious, legal, formal and economic cycles. The wedding will cost a financial fortune, bu this is balanced with the increased level of tourism at the time of the Royal engagement.

I looked at the transits in Kate’s chart for next year, and transiting Jupiter trines natal Uranus, describing an increased time of excitement, luck and opportunity. Transiting Jupiter is also square her natal Sun, signifying a time of self-expansion and things tend to get a little over-extravagant under such planetary conditions. Kate has Sun in Capricorn and possesses a sensible and self-conscious nature, and she is concerned about social status and about keeping things in order. It must be said that such a large celebration would fall under a Sun-Jupiter contact. Traditionally Jupiter brings providence, joy and strong religious ceremonies. Astrologers do warn about excessive drinking, eating and partying under such contacts, so go easy on the drink, Kate.

The chart for England is based on the crowning of William the Conqueror in 1066. Pluto is currently transiting through Capricorn and moving towards a conjunction with the British Sun. The core purpose and destiny of England is going to go through a period of evolution, change and growth. Pluto transits usually indicate old forms of governments and family tradition (Capricorn) dying, before new structural change can happen. The time of the royal wedding in England, shows the Jupiter- Saturn opposition falling almost exactly on our Ascendant (Aries) -Descendant (Libra) axis, describing the general conditions of the country, foreign affairs, relationships with other countries, and significant public marriages.

Mother-Moon-Astrology: Scorpio Themes

moon astrology mother and child close bond hugging
Those with Moon-Pluto aspects in the chart, Moon in Scorpio or Moon in the 8th house, have great intensity of feeling, survival instincts and a need to merge emotionally with others. The relationship with the mother may be filled with emotional depth and there are powerful feelings surrounding a parent.

A Scorpionic mother may have been emotionally demanding, over possessive, obsessive and power-hungry. Through nurturing, bonding, comfort and protection, the feeling life (Moon) is coloured by intrusive, and threatening forces. The parent may love to stir up trouble in the family and felt she had to control everyone.

“The overly “pre-occupied mother-the type who cannot relinquish her own fusion with the child - may be portrayed in the child’s birth chart by difficult configurations of the Moon with Neptune or Pluto, or with the Moon, Neptune, or Pluto located at the Midheaven and/or in the 10th house. This may sometimes reflect a mother whose own personality is unformed, and who finds meaning through merging with, and living through, her offspring.” By Liz Greene, The Astrological Neptune

A Plutonian child may have faced the realities of death, abuse, jealousy and even violence. In turn, these early feelings have a profound impact on feelings about intimacy and family. Moon-Pluto aspects sometimes signify the death of mother or loss of someone in the environment, and a parent needing to deal with grief and mourning. The Moon relates to the body and feminine problems to do with the organs, womb, breasts, menstruation, pregnancy, hysterectomy, etc. Hidden problems in the body may have been diagnosed at some stage.

The Moon in Scorpio, Moon in 8th house and Moon-Pluto aspects are watery combinations and so the issues of boundaries are  important. The mother may invade the child’s space, and so privacy issues may arise. The individual may have been subjected and exposed to emotional-blackmail, intimidation, smothering and threatening behaviour. Powerful Scorpio emotions are prone to threats of suicide and other self-destructive, manipulative and underhanded strategies.

The child was never allowed to feel-safe and they learned how to guard their feelings. Sometimes there are skeletons in the family closet and a deep dark secret - alcoholism, violence, sexual abuse, disablement, criminal activity, or something less dramatic - that was kept hidden. Sometimes the mother was going through some sort of crisis when the child was born.

“Moon-Pluto mother-love may be devouring and manipulative although often it is subtle and covert. However, in extreme cases if the combination is strong, the devouring quality of the mother can indeed make her something of a wicked witch or vampire, a mother that sucks the life out of the child and thus is obsessively protective. Sometimes the parental figure is the grandparent, usually a grandmother and where it isn’t, this suffocating history still often has its roots in the patriarchal line.” By Sue Tompkins, Aspects in Astrology

More positively, there may be a close emotional bond between mother and child which is built on loyalty and unwavering commitment. The mother is good dealing with resources, and especially other people’s finances. Furthermore she is deeply passionate about loved ones and about living a full-life. Pluto is also attracted to what is the hidden, the occult, psychology, healing, and anything to do with growth-promoting areas.

The mother may have possessed tremendous stamina and strength in the face of crisis. When forced to rely on her survival instincts and powerful insights throughout life, she may have faced some dark, difficult and traumatic challenges. The person has learned how to use power and control wisely, and gain self-mastery. Scorpio placements develop focus, determination and psychological self-awareness. Much of the emotional energy may also be used to protect the child and shows a love that is deep, strong, committed and unwavering.

Astrology Love Quotes

astrology and love two red flowers in a gardenHere is a selection of various astrological love quotes. Although, I believe that elemental compatibility only holds so much weight. I have known several astrologically ‘incompatible’ relationships that successfully work, and that’s not to say they don’t share markedly different temperaments. However, we learn a lot more from lovers who are different from us, and often they help us with our missing elements. I think we learn how to tolerate major differences in our astrological make-ups in regard to relationships. Relationship astrology is always a fascinating and rewarding study, that allows us to learn about ourselves and others at a more deeper level.

"The sign the South Node occupies tells us about the prior life nature of the couple and what their soul-contact was in the past. Just remember to tilt your interpretation a bit negatively, then think of the South Node’s sign as you would a conventional Sun sign. South in Aries? Together they had a warrior’s nature and energy - but you’ll be looking at issues of stress and fear, along with the impact of violence received or violence offered. South Node in Libra? Probably we’re seeing a partnership between equals, a fair bet for a past-life marriage-but watch out for too much “politeness,” indecision or concern with appearances: the Librian shadow.

The house of the South Node tells us about the physical scene of the couple’s life together in the karmic past-what they were actually doing, and also some insight into the circumstances which compelled or restrained them. South Node in the 9th house think about institutions of learning or religion. Consider travel or immigration. Eleventh house? Movements. Tribes. Large groups of people. The nearly irresistible force of mob psychology. Second house? Issues around money or the material basis for survival. Next, put the house an sign together. South Node in Libra and in the eleventh house? They were partner, but crippled by indecision and too much concern with what others thought of them (Libra)-probably in the context of a compelling but stultifying proper society (eleventh house, modified in the Librian direction)." Skymates, Steven Forrest, Jodie Forrest

"Venus-Neptune, Moon-Neptune, and Mars Neptune in the composite may prove trickier, because it is harder to disengage one’s dreams and idealisations from the partner. Such a relationship may initially generate extremely high emotional and sexual expectations; when the reality proves to be merely human, both people may experience deep disappointment and resentment. Extreme dependency can cause both people to become deeply manipulative and dishonest with each other." Liz Greene The Astrological Neptune and the Quest for Redemption.

"The aspects in a clients chart will tell you about his or her potential partners, and if a person does not fit the profile , the relationship will probably not amount to much. For instance, if a man has his Moon square Pluto, every woman he attracts will be controlling, or manipulative, or he will elicit that response in her. The woman may not be that way, but his behaviour will bring it that out in her, because this is how he perceived or experienced mother. By the same token, a man who has never been abusive to a woman in his life may find himself inclined toward more destructive behaviour when he connects with a woman who has a Mars square Pluto. I had a man who was involved with a woman who had this aspect, and he said that she brought out the worst in him. He was shocked by this response, because he had never acted this way toward a woman before." Carol Rushman, Predictive Astrology

"The seventh house is the part of the chart describing partnership activities. This can range form join endeavours to business associations to actual marriages. In present times, it describes a live in relationship, whether it is a marriage or not. With Saturn in this house. Fear of relationships with present day partners that could become restrictive, heavy and burdensome after a while may prevent the individual from having any relationship at all . Early in life, the individual may avoid marriage altogether or marry for safety’s sake and become trapped on some level, forcing an eventual re-decision about the marriage. He or she may pick a “rock” as a mate, someone who is ultra-cautious, conservative or rejecting." Astrology and your Past Lives, by Jean Avery

"If there are planets in the 4th which suggest love and idealisation, and the parents split up, something of our own soul remains deeply unconscious and unlived. Then the suppressed feelings for the father may provide fodder for later triangles, because we are still seeking somebody who can embody the planetary archetype for us. This can apply to both sexes. It should not be surprising if a woman coming from this kind of family background, with this kind of chart configuration, winds up playing the Instrument of Betrayal and hurls herself at a married man. Equally, she may find herself as the Betrayed, married to someone just like the father she adored and lost. Or she may become the Betrayer as a defence, because she is determined not to wind up like her mother." Relationships and How to Survive Them, Liz Greene

"I have found that relationships in which the charts have a lot of difficult cross-aspects are no less productive and exciting than relationships with a lot of harmonious aspects. The ones which seem to be hardest are those where there are very few cross-aspects. This is especially the case if my sun, moon and ascendant are not being aspected by your chart. Then I may have the feeling that although you might spend a lot of time with me, you haven’t a clue about who I am. There isn’t any pick-up point: there is nothing in you tuned in to receive me. I don’t register on you as an individual if your chart doesn’t aspect those fundamental points in mine. In some way we could keep missing each other. There is a feeling of emptiness and frustration that grows in these kinds of relationships. I would rather have a relationship where everything in your chart squared and opposed everything in mine, rather than one where you missed me altogether. “ New Insights in Modern Astrology By Liz Greene

Delta Goodrem

delta goodrem mistaken identity album cover
One of my favourite albums is by Delta Goodrem, called Mistaken Identity. I can identify with nearly every song on the record. The singer was born in Australia and starred in the popular television series Neighbours as Nina Tucker. Delta’s debut album Innocent Eyes holds the highest selling record of the last decade, and she has been successful in both Australia and the U.K.

Delta showed an interest in music and performance from a young age, and as well as singing she also plays the piano, too. Natally she has a Venus-Neptune conjunction in Sagittarius and a whole stellium of planets in that sign. The feeling life is hopeful, philosophical and expansive, with strong romantic idealism in relationships, this person believes in the fairytale. Venus-Neptune types usually excel in the arts, music and photography, moreover, people with these contacts are inspired by beauty and peace.

At Aged 15 she signed a record deal with Sony, but the singer's earlier songs failed to chart successfully, however, after gaining a role in Neighbours it re-launched her career. On the 8th of July 2003, at the age of 18, Delta was diagnosed with a form of cancer that attacks the immune system. The singer was forced to quit all work commitments while receiving treatment and she revealed in an interview that her body had been giving warning signs. The symptoms included a head to toe rash, weight loss, night sweats, and the appearance of a lump in her neck. Delta has Sun conjunct Saturn in Scorpio, and this is a heavy, dark, serious and intense aspect. The Sun-Saturn contact describes a cautious, hardworking, and controlled individual, and this person knows the value of hard-earned accomplishments.

All Scorpio placements face some kind of life and death struggle and look at life’s underside. Psychologically speaking, they “die” and are “born again” throughout life. Astrologers refer to Scorpio planets, 8th house placements and strong Pluto contacts as packing several lifetimes into one. Delta has strength, will power and an unlimited source of power. However, she has been forced to face a particularly difficult ordeal. Above all else, Scorpio's reemerge more vital than before after life-changing events. When undergoing very deep and soulful journeys they learn to appreciate life and aim to live it in a rich and fulfilling way.  Coupled with her Scorpio conjunction, she has a Mars square Pluto contact that is often found in the charts of those with strong survival instincts.

“ Perhaps there is such a strong survival instinct with this combination, people with it often have a tremendous resistance to colds, but I have seen charts of Aids and cancer sufferers with tight Mars-Pluto contacts. In such cases the individuals are learning that they have a life-threatening disease, have exerted themselves not only to survive but to reach their peak of physical fitness. Others have used the experience to penetrate the workings of their psyche and transform their lives. Even Mars-Pluto people whose lives are not threatened will often react to situations as if they were.” Sue Tompkins, Aspects in Astrology

When Goodrem was diagnosed with Cancer, transiting Neptune squared her Sun-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio. Transiting Neptune to the Sun can bring confusion around one’s identity and a period of self-doubt and disorientation. Health problems can surface under hard aspects and general feelings of being lost, frustrated and disillusioned also accompany the contact. The Mistaken Identity album was recorded when she returned back to work in 2004, after the cancer went into remission.

The album contained deeper and darker lyrics than those found on her debut. Extraordinary Day is about the day she was diagnosed with Cancer. Last Night on Earth is a song about death and love. The Analyst is about the hours spent in self-analysis. Be strong is a song about hanging in there and keeping it together. Some of the other  lyrics talk about emotional suicide and monsters crawling in her bed, reflecting the darker side that she struggled to overcome. Delta also met her fiancé, Brian McFadden, while recording a duet called Almost Here. The singer had transiting Pluto conjunct her natal Venus signifying an intense love relationship (Venus) and one that she had begun under a great crisis (Pluto) in her life.

Royal Wedding Part 2

Saturn in Libra Prince william and Kate Middleton engagement
I want Kate's hair, very gorgeous.
I thought I would say something about the engagement between Prince William and Kate Middleton. I think its kind of strange with the timing. I had written a previous post on the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Libra and the Charles and Diana, Royal Wedding. The next marriage to take place, if they marry in the Spring of next year will be 30 years later and under the Jupiter-Saturn opposition. However, if they marry in the Summer the opposition will have passed, and they will have messed up my astrological analysis. So I do hope there is a Spring wedding, for both their sakes ;-p. Both William and Kate are approaching their Saturn Return, too. Transiting Saturn in Libra has been triggering the past Jupiter-Saturn in Libra conjunction in 1981, it has been in close range for some time. Its strange how the cycles of time over-lap and create new events from the ashes of the old. Saturn in Libra, signifies that its time to commit, take relationships seriously and plan ahead. I hope it turns out to be a happier marriage than the one between his parents, but it's nice to see him happy. A Saturn Return on the mundane level and for this couple.

Pisces Rising

pisces rising, window, boat on water, clouds and picturesA person with Pisces rising has an ever-shifting and changeable outlook. Those with significant points in the sign of the fishes are gentle, sensitive people with a deep understanding of others and a very tolerant, non judgemental approach towards life.

Pisces Rising approaches life with an instinctive sense of unity and a compassionate approach to all human emotional experiences. The person never takes definite action and are sometimes reluctant to define personal boundaries, and can be deliberately evasive and hard to figure out. They tend to be somewhat passive, and let things resolve or work themselves out in their own way. They have a flexible personality and willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and demands.

The individual is very compassionate and cannot tolerate seeing any other creature suffer, and as a child they probably got quite upset whenever others were hurt physically or emotionally. The world of the imagination is much more real to them, a place to escape to when the world became too harsh. They have a highly emotional nature, with a quiet, shy personality. Though they may be as intelligent as anybody else, they do not really have a logical approach toward life. The feelings, intuition and heart lead them.

Twelfth House Dreams

Dreams are said to be the mind’s way of making sense of the various types of input we receive in daily life. Astrologically, we would look to the Twelfth house, Neptune and Pisces for the unconscious aspects of the personality. Much of what lies dormant in our conscious minds becomes accessible to our rational mind through the imagery of dreams. It has been proved that the human being needs sleep in order to function successfully. Indeed sleep deprivation has a profound effect on our ability to function effectively in daily life (6th house). Mental and physical breakdowns occur very quickly without the relief of the dreaming process. The link between the twelfth house and dreaming is quickly understood by the confusing, illusory, colourful, weird and disorganized content of a dream.

During waking hours we are continually taking in information which must be stored somewhere until we can categorize and fit it in to our lives. Most of the mental organizing and sifting of information involves Mercury, Virgo and the 6th house. The sixth house is opposite the twelfth house, and polarities always share a common ground. Virgo is a negative, earth sign that provides structure, order and routine, however, polarities are never a one way street. Often people look at Pisces and remark how they look like their off in some dream world. The unconscious is like the ocean and Neptune rules the imagination, photography, music and film. Most movies are based on imaginary characters and stories that are condensed into just less than two hours. Neptune also signifies timelessness, glamour and illusion. Music and film are good examples wherein people are swept away, elated, enchanted and inspired. The twelfth house is one of the most inaccessible houses to understand because the very things it represents are by nature hidden, illusory and tend to slip from view.

Higher Self and Drive Towards Wholeness

Some people do not believe that dreams ‘serve’ any function in our lives other than providing us with confusing, disordered and random images. Most people don’t even remember their dreams and cannot see any connection at all between dreams (12th) and daily life (6th). Thousands of years ago people paid sharp attention to dreams and believed they contained valuable, prophetic or clairvoyant information. It was also believed the information was sent by gods as warnings and guidance. Some people believ it is possible to recapture past life memories from the subconscious during sleep because of temporary disengagament from the more critical elements of the conscious mind.

In the light of modern day knowledge we believe it to be the Higher Self that guides us through life, and the drive towards wholeness was influenced by certain themes within this great unconscious. Jung believed that there were dark and repressed sides to our personality that would trip the individual up. In traditional astrology, the twelfth house is described as the house of self-undoing, the dissolution of the ego, sacrifice and suffering. The concepts are not easily digested, but it was thought to represent unlived energies as if it were some kind of dustbin of the astrological houses.

Most of our lives are so busy, filled with tasks, chores and responsibilities, that we don’t have enough time to analyze or ‘pay attention’ (Mercury, Virgo, 6th house) to the symbolic meaning behind dreams. In addition, we tend to associate our most imaginative, colourful and vivid dreaming with that bit of undigested food in our stomachs (6th) and some don’t consider a dream to have any real significance at all. It has been suggested that dreams are a sort of self-cleaning, self-clearing process which makes room each night for the next day’s information. Moreover, dreams are thought to be a storage house for all the undigested and unprocessed contents of the psyche. Symbolically, dreams also point the individual to something that they are ‘not paying attention’ to in their waking life (6th). If we suffer from repetitive dreams it is said that the ‘message’ and significance of the imagery will not leave until we confront what the dream is trying to tell us. Astrologers associate the 12th house with cleaning out the closet, in particular, everything that is unacknowledged, ignored and repressed in ourselves.

The Collective Unconscious

Dreams often bring up images of people from our past, and they may wear the face of a loved one that has passed on, and retrieve buried memories. It is thought that they present a way of solving problems which may seem impossible on the conscious level. Jung labelled this level of ‘reality’ the Collective Unconscious. The Greeks believed that many dreams are the wondering soul through the astral realm and many of our dreams reflect the landscapes and images that are found in the astral world. It is said that the astrological gods appear in our dreams in different forms according to the modern day symbols of the planet. Mercury can now appear as a text message, but hundreds of year ago, he was more likely to be seen as a letter received. Anger in a dream can be timelessly seen as an image of Mars, and represents passionate emotions that are distressing us. Poison in a dream is symbolic of deep buried resentment and emotion that is not good for us, other people’s beliefs and attitudes contaminating us, vengeance and hatred (Scorpio, Pluto and the 8th house). In dreams we play multiple selves (Pisces) and we need to identify with everything in the dream as belonging to us. We are all parts of the dream, and we also need to understand the emotional charge and images that speak the loudest. The symbols of any dream are highly significant and loaded with psychological meaning.

Water Signs

water signs woman in blue dress floating on dark waterThe signs expressing the element of water are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Cancer, the cardinal water sign, ruled by the Moon, reflect its early environment and memories of childhood and the home. This person relies on their ‘gut instincts’ and they usually receive impressions and an overall feeling about a person. The type is usually very much in tune with its emotional needs, and form a powerful attachment to their early ’roots’. Cancerians often delve into their family tree and study subjects like history. These people need emotional contact through the family and home. Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by Mars and Pluto and probes into the environment, it signifies deep water where transformation takes place below the surface of life. Scorpio presents the tougher side of water and is extremely self-protective, secretive and tends to distance himself from social situations.

Scorpio is based on the flow of feeling of mutual entanglements and merges with others in a profound way, the sign penetrates emotionally in order to strike at the very heart and soul of emotional experiences. Plutonian feelings are hot, fiery emotional and prone to violent eruptions. Scorpio responds to the darkest depths of human emotion, and we often form our most profound bonds through life and death situations, but also through emotional confrontations. Although, it must be said, that the Scorpion does tend to 'provoke' what lies beneath the surface of life, even if it dredges up ugly emotions. Above all, the sign values emotional honesty, and needs to know how others really feel, and are not fooled by social niceties, pretence or keeping up appearances.

Pisces, the mutable water sign ruled by Jupiter and Neptune dissolves and crosses boundaries, signifying the widest of emotional experiences. This person can be extremely submissive and the most changeable of the water signs and their emotions are constantly shifting, moving and changing. In essence, the water triplicity responds beautifully to anything coloured with human emotion and are sensitive to the needs of others, reacting appropriately to the mood of the moment. Classically, water loves emotional drama and sink easily into feelings of melancholy. Usually there is a deep psychic sensitivity to life and need for secrecy and privacy.

“Of all the elements, the Sage should take water as his preceptor. Water is yielding but all conquering. Water extinguishes Fire, finding itself likely to be defeated, escapes as steam and reforms. Water washes away soft Earth or, when confronted by rocks, seeks a way around… It saturates the atmosphere so that Wind dies. Water gives way to obstacles with deceptive humility, for no power can prevent it following its destined course to the sea. Water conquers by yielding; it never attacks but always wins the last battle.” John Blofeld’s, The Wheel of Life

The water elements take all shapes and forms: the pond, to the calm, tranquil and sometimes violent sea, or the hard frozen lake. Water signs tend to be ‘deep’ and introverted, they value relationships and need emotional bonds and closeness with others. At worst, they can get waterlogged and bogged down by too much negativity in their environment, and there is often a vulnerability in all water signs. Sometimes prone to suffering from extreme ‘mood swings’ the water types are often ‘inarticulate’ souls. However, these emotional types have the capacity to feel and react to others in a caring and sensitive way.

“The watery type is usually well-acquainted with the darker side of human nature, which earns these signs their reputation for compassion and empathy. There is the inherent capacity to feel what another feels, and to assess things in what appears to be a totally irrational way which can be infuriating to the airy type, who must reason everything out, “Why don’t you like him?” says air, and water replies, “I don’t know, I just don’t feel good about him.” But you must have a reason.” I don’t need a reason, I just know.” “But surely you don’t expect me to accept your judgement without a reason!” By Liz Greene, Relating

John Travolta's Horoscope

John Travolta is an actor that has starred in Grease, Pulp Fiction, Look who’s Talking and Face-Off. John’s father was an American footballer turned salesman, and his mother was an actress and drama teacher. The youngest of six children, he began dancing at an early age, making his acting debut at the age of 12. The actor has been described as electrical, intense and magnetic. I always thought John was a Scorpion, but he actually has Sun in Aquarius. However, he does have Sun in the 8th house opposite Pluto, this gives him some powerful Scorpio energy in his chart. Sun-Pluto aspects are characteristic of someone who has a powerful presence and they are often exposed to the darker sides of society. The type usually has a strong will-power, but they can sometimes feel dominated by outside forces. The life is often coloured with drama, crisis, and troubled relationships. Sue Tompkins says, “ There is a decision at some point in the life to live or die, and en-route that decision, many will undergo despair and self-destructive episodes and have to deal with their (usually) markedly poor-self image.“

Comparatively, John Travolta has experienced immensely painful and heartbreaking events over the course of his life. The star was involved with actress Diana Hyland, whom he met filming The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, the relationship ended when she died of breast Cancer in 1977. During this time transiting Saturn squared John's natal Saturn in Scorpio in the 4th house. This can represent a frustrating period in his life, with adversity, fears and a time when when long-term stability and security is reassessed. Sometimes the individual is burdened with more responsibility. The fourth house square makes him painfully aware of loss of security in early childhood and reliance on loved ones. Natally, Saturn in the fourth house also signifies deep responsibility, heavy burdens and family duties. Transiting Pluto was conjunct his fourth house cusp indicating a death in the environment. The following year while these transits were active his mother died.

“Some of the major changes involve family and home. I have seen clients lose a parent as Pluto conjuncted the fourth-house cusp. Old issues from the past surface to be resolved and I have seen clients get emotional illness at this time” By Carol Rushman

In 1991 he married Kelly Preston and they had a son named Jett and daughter, Ella. In January 2009, John’s son died after hitting his head in the bath at the family’s home. Jett was rumoured to suffer from autism and had a history of seizures. The star was left devastated after burying his son. John did everything in his power to revive him and he shared a very close relationship with him. At the time of his son's seizure, transiting Uranus was opposite his natal Moon indicating change, disruption (Uranus) and disturbing emotional states (Moon). My ex-partner has unaspected Mercury in Pisces and he has an autistic brother. In John’s chart, transiting Uranus was conjunct his natal Mercury in Pisces and this can be a high-wired combination that relates to nervous tension and mental overload. Transiting Neptune had entered his 8th house in orb of a conjunction to his Sun. The eighth house rules death, crisis and change. Sun-Neptune contacts can indicate the loss (Neptune) of a male (Sun) figure.

Megan Fox

meagan fox beauty
Megan Fox is an American model and film actress. The star is most recognised for the movie Transformers, as the lead female character. It has been described as her ‘breakout role’ and rightly so. In 2007, when the dark haired beauty was cast as Mikaela Banes, transiting Jupiter was conjunct Uranus in Sagittarius. The contact between these two planets often signifies ‘lucky breaks’ and sudden unexpected opportunities. Transformers was a massive box office hit, and I do admit to liking this movie. I thought it might have been too much of a ‘boys’ film, but it turned out to be entertaining and fun to watch. Fox has admitted that she was bullied at school by other girls, and it was not because of her looks, but the fact that she got along with boys better. Megan was born with the Sun in the sensual and artistic sign of Taurus, and it indicates that the actress works steadily and slowly towards her goals. The Sun is trine Mars in Capricorn (exalted) and she does say that she has an assertive personality. Usually Sun-Mars contacts tend to be leaders rather than followers, assertive, and they usually go after what they want in life. Unless the chart strongly conflicts with these statements, there is usually great ambition and competitiveness here too. The individual is often proud of their courage, daring and zeal.

On the set of transformers it has been rumoured that she is a difficult actress to work with and that she is rude and inconsiderate of other people‘s feelings. The star has admitted that she can be vulnerable and has suffered from low self- esteem, but that she can also be aggressive, domineering and selfish. Megan has said that she doesn’t trust females in Hollywood and finds the whole business too competitive, and she has also admitted to being bisexual. Fox has Venus in the curious sign of Gemini opposite Uranus. Ordinarily, Venus-Uranus is attracted to unusual people, or they value free love. This person often has magnetic attractions to different people, but there is a tremendous need for space and freedom in relationships. Astrologer Sue Tompkins says, “Neither are they likely to be offended by same-sex relationships or relationships which are usually seen as unconventional or ‘different for some reason. Venus-Uranus likes to keep their options open. Commonly, they choose people they don't have to be with on a ‘round the clock’ basis. As well as a desire for freedom there is also a strong need for excitement.”

Joaquin Phoenix Horoscope

joaquin phoenix looking broody
Actor, Joaquin Phoenix, has always been such a fascinating man to watch. The actor is not your standard, carbon cut out of what society defines as handsome, but there is something compelling about him. Most people tend to remember him in the movie, Space Camp. Usually, he is typecast or drawn to characters that are dark, brooding and conflicted. It might not come as a surprise that he has Sun, Venus and Mars all in the intensive and emotional sign of Scorpio.

Joaquin was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. And he is known for his work as a social activist and advocates for animal rights. Phoenix’s mother and father joined the cult of God and travelled with the family throughout South America, but after becoming disillusioned with the cult, the family left and renamed themselves ‘Phoenix’, representing their re-birth and new beginning.

Joaquin’s brother, River Phoenix, suffered an overdose on the 31st October 1993. The call that he made to the police was aired all over television, which resulted in unwanted press intrusion into his private life, and led to the star's retreat from the spotlight. During this time, transiting Jupiter was conjunct natal Uranus. I have known several cases where this contact has been indicative of lucky breaks and greater freedom in one’s career, and personal life. However, sometimes the individual acts out rebelliously, carelessly or recklessly. Jupiter also triggers his natal Mars square Saturn, which is a difficult and frustrating aspect. Transiting Saturn at 23 Aquarius was in orb to begin a series of trines to Mercury and Uranus in Libra, and squares (challenging) to Sun, Venus and Mars in Scorpio. Scorpio planets are full of self-destruction, stillness‘, death and these types are like a deep simmering volcano, there is a quiet power to this sign. They are filled with self-determination and pride and they are remarkably tough. I believe these heavy transits may possibly reflect the shocking (Uranus) event involving his brother (Mercury) and his sudden death. A year after his brother’s death he reluctantly returned to acting.

Phoenix has an exact Mercury-Uranus conjunction in Libra. The actor is well known for his social activism (Uranus) and particularly for his interest and campaigns for the United States Department of Peace (Libra). The star has battled addiction problems and checked into a rehab centre in 2005. In 2006, while driving down a winding road, he crashed due to brake problems. The star had transiting Uranus conjunct Jupiter, reflecting a time of recklessness and carelessness. However, I feel ‘accidents’ can also act like ‘wake up calls‘, especially when Uranus is involved, and they sometimes force psychological breakthroughs. Transiting Saturn had been making a series of squares to his Scorpio stellium over the last couple of years before the accident. It wouldn’t be hard to predict that this was the time that his spate of deep depression was triggered, right before the road accident. At the time of the accident a man appeared and saved him form lighting a cigarette while gas was leaking in the car. In some respects he was 'fortunate' under the contact between Jupiter and Uranus.

A few months ago, I watched him in the movie Two Lovers and I thought he was outstanding in this role. The film begins with him ready to jump off the pier in an attempted suicide. We find out that this isn’t the first time he has tried to kill himself. The film evolves into a tragic love story; it also has a depressive and melancholic feeling. It was slow paced and needed a good jump-start now and again. Yet, I only continued with the film, because I was so convinced by Joaquin’s role in the movie.

Supernatural

supernatural, Sam and Dean with a snake
I absolutely love the Supernatural series; it’s so well written, produced and acted. The storylines are fantastic and there is always an element of humour thrown in the show that is paralleled with its darker themes. The show was created by Eric Kripike, and debuted on September 13th 2005. Supernatural follows two Winchester brothers Sam (Jared Padlecki) and Dean (Jenson Ackles) on the hunt for demons and other paranormal figures. The Winchester's own family history contains demons from the past, death, secrets and revenge. The tale also draws its inspiration from the Winchester Mystery House. The mansion is reported to be haunted and it was once the residence of Sarah Winchester. The whole story behind the spooky house reeks of 8th house mystery and drama. Astrologically, the 8th house is a ‘hidden’ house and represents the deeper aspects of the psyche that do not lend themselves easily to the conscious mind. Thus we have transformation, ego-death and irrevocable change. Family demons and curses are often signified in the eighth house of the chart. It also rules sex and death, family legacies, wills, and the ’possessions’ of others. It describes what we have inherited in a psychological sense from our parents. Howard Sasportas says, “The ruins of childhood are often excavated in the Eighth house”. After the deaths of her daughter and her young husband, Sarah Winchester contacted a psychic. The Medium believed that there was a curse on the family because the guns they made had taken so many lives. The psychic believed that thousands of spirits were now taking vengeance. Sarah was convinced that spirits would kill her if she completed the building work on her home.

The creator of the show, Eric Kripike, has always been interested in urban legends since he was a child. Eric’s horoscope contains a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Cancer square Pluto. The violence portrayed throughout the series, fighting (Mars) possessed and demonic forces (Pluto) reflect in his nativity. The Director uses his energy quite creatively. Strong contacts between Mars and Saturn frequently test physical and emotional endurance. Lessons around courage, control and discipline are symbolised by these two planets. Often the individual feels dominated by outside forces and they sometimes subject themselves to enormous physical tests of strength. One of the key phrases for a Mars-Pluto contact is ‘fighting for survival‘, it also contends with buried rage. Frequently there is an early experience with violence, and the combination can be associated with extraordinary acts of courage in the face of annihilation. All Plutionian aspects deal with societal taboos in some form. Furthermore, with all this energy pointed at Cancer, we have an individual connected with a story that contains 8th house undertones of devils and curses on the family (4th sign). I understand that these shows are based on myths and imaginative story-telling. However, those with an emphasis in Scorpio, 8th house planets or Pluto aspects, will on some level, relate to themes of battling compulsions, inner demons, death, abuse and the darker aspects of human nature.

Astrologically, baby faced Sam (Jared) has planets in Cancer and was born under the heavy conjunction of Mars-Saturn-Pluto. This is a rather striking similarity to the shows creator's chart. The stunning, Dean, (Jenson Ackles) is a Pisces, with Sun, Mercury and Venus in the twelfth sign. Overall, this whole show has a water sign prominence. Dean also has Mars in Cancer square Pluto. The astrology for this show is in itself Supernatural with repeating themes running through all of their charts. I am a big fan of the show and I will be sad to see it end. I have enjoyed the relationship development with Sam and Dean, and the demons they battle, not only physically, but emotionally, mentally and psychologically.

Relationship Balance

venus in libra, relationship astrology, couple hugging nakedA good place to start in relationship analysis is by first judging the elemental and modality balance in the natal chart. Often at a time of crisis in a partnership it is useful to observe how each person reacts according to their horoscope and element balance. Ordinarily, there are many factors we can observe when assessing the style or temperament of a couple, but to keep it simple, the balance of the two charts are a good place to begin in any study on the nature of a relationship.

If one partner has an abundance of planets in the FIRE signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), they are usually warm, have plenty of energy, enthusiasm and vitality. They are unparalleled optimists, and to them life is one big adventure.

A predominance of planets in the EARTH signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) shows a steady, practical individual and one who is far more cautious than their fiery counterparts, and are less inclined to take risks. Earth type people are often accused of being pessimistic due to their negative, introverted and grounded nature, but they have dogged persistence, and in times of crisis they can be relied upon to find a reliable solution.

A person with an abundance of planets in the AIR signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) is more interested in the realm of ideas, communication and the intellect. Air signs are logical, rational and objective and are prone to analyzing difficult situations. These people bring clarity, objectivity and a new perspective into any relationship.

The WATER signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) are also considered to be negative and introverted. A person with plenty of planets in water are said to have a strong psychic sensitivity, compassion and understanding. Water people feel the undercurrents of any situation and tend to feel their way around life.

CARDINAL signs ( Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) are ambitious and need to take action, the urge to achieve and succeed are important. The FIXED signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) are the most inflexible signs and are often resistant to change. MUTABLE (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) signs are extremely adaptable, but they do have a tendency to scatter their energies, have difficulty staying focused, and often they prefer intellectual pursuits.

House placements are also important and they often compensate for missing elements or qualities. I have a brother with cardinal energy and his partner also has a cardinal chart and they are both ambitious and active people. Have a look at your relationship charts and quickly see the astrological patterns in the relationship.

Moon Astrology: Parental Significator/Moon-Saturn

moon in capricorn, children playing with a goat in the snow
The Moon reading relates to Moon in Capricorn, Moon in aspect to Saturn and Moon in the 10th house of the chart. For the most part, this reading is a generalized view of how the person with this parental archetype in the natal chart, may view the mother. Parental relationships can be complicated for some, and there will be different and varying experiences. An individual may receive positive Saturnian images from the mother and equally another person will speak more negatively about their mother. Sometimes the image falls somewhere in-between. I don’t fall into the astrological camp of blaming mother for everything that goes wrong in early childhood.

I will try to be sensitive, understanding that readers of this may be mothers. I need to reflect all the possible experiences, so if you read words like cold and rejecting, this doesn't necessarily mean you are. Astrology makes no judgements on any parent. Early circumstances vary for every child and the reason for any kind of personal lack in the child’s background can be due to material hardship, illness, work and so forth.

Safety, Protection and Nurturing

Astrologically, the Moon describes our most fundamental urge for protection, safety and nurturing. The ability to express our lunar needs depends on early development, and the ability for internal mothering. The Moon rules the mother in the natal chart and the relationship will be reflected by the position of the Moon by sign, house and aspects. Our image of mothering is one of unconditional love, care and security. The Moon in the natal chart describes the feminine principle and later relationships with women will also be reflected by the Moon.

The Moon in Capricorn is in its sign of detriment and so it may be a difficult position to experience emotional nourishment and nurturing behaviour. The mother may have valued, achievement, hard-work and organization. In such cases, if often leaves little time for this person to really be a ‘child’ and allow for feelings of vulnerability, neediness and helplessness. This often involves repressing basic emotions and many will have received early parenting which emphasized success and accomplishment. Perhaps love was conditional and the maternal message was one of ‘tough love’.

At worst, the mother figure was viewed as critical, cold and rejecting. The Moon in Capricorn or in aspect to Saturn, does seem to describe difficulty in getting what they want emotionally and the emotions are never allowed free reign. According to Howard Sasportas, these types could encounter an uptight mother, who seems burdened with difficulties and has problems responding to their needs in a fashion which makes them feel at ease.

“In some cases, mother may be trying her hardest to be attentive to your comfort and satisfaction, but she might be so nervous about doing her job right that you would ultimately pick up on her insecurity and doubts. Maybe she’s busy with other responsibilities or has read in a book that babies should be fed according to a timetable and not just when they express a desire to be fed. “ By Howard Sasportas, The Luminaries

Those with Moon in Capricorn often have mothers who are naturally controlling in order to cope with change, and at her best she has a deep sense of responsibility and care for others. In such cases, this type of mother finds it hard to relax and let go. Always doing what is expected of them, and they hate letting others down. Mother may have been a rock in their life, always shouldering the hardship, heavy burdens, and working hard. Perhaps she hardly took a day off to tend to her own needs. Sometimes the mother takes on the role of the father, possibly having to support the family financially.

Saturn is a significator of the element of earth and has a cardinal nature. Therefore, she may be described as materialistic and caring a little too much about social appearances and approval, consequently, being a little too rigid. Coupled with this, is a parent who is afraid of getting it wrong and making mistakes, so she follows the rules to the letter. Perhaps the parent was not a very spontaneous or natural mother and was too reserved. In other cases, the individual was raised by older parents.

The associations are endless, but the Moon-Saturn mother is often dependable, devoted and loyal. However, she might not have always been overly demonstrative in her affections. Sometimes she does things for people out of a sense of duty and it was most probably through her, that they learned how to be self-sufficient. The early home life may have been bleak and mother may have been unavailable when they needed her. Equally, Mother may have been a warm and caring person but she was perceived as overly serious or depressed, and it was hard for her to let go emotionally. Perhaps they saw her as the disciplinarian in the family, and at times she was over strict and demanding.

The mother may have been shy and insecure and it is also likely, that she had it tough emotionally in the early years of the child‘s life. Sometimes death, illness and poverty in the family are physically and psychologically hard on the mother. She may have done her best under such circumstances, but sometimes there is too much to cope with. In addition, these mothers often have to be the strong one in the family, doing all the practical things for everybody.

“Sometimes the child had to take on responsibilities at too young an age, often becoming a surrogate mother, perhaps by being born the eldest child and having to look after younger siblings. Often the mother or other caretaker is over-burdened and Moon-Saturn ends up playing mother to its own mother figure. The lunar aspect of parenting which might be termed ‘conditional love’ is often in short supply. Often there never seems enough time to pander to the child’s needs. As in farming situations, there is often a strong tradition in the family set-up of the Moon-Saturn background. Perhaps for generations the family may have lived in the same house, or locality, or pursued the same kind of profession. The result is that it is very difficult for the individual to be able to get way from the duties, responsibilities and history they were born into. “ By Sue Tompkins, Aspects in Astrology
