Moon trine Uranus: At home with Astrology

I have a Moon-Mercury conjunction in Pisces in the 7th house trine Uranus in the 3rd house. I believe my interest in astrology and occult subjects stems from my trines to Uranus. I think I will always have a life-long obsession with astrology. All I want to do is talk and feel excited about the cosmic design that is our astrology chart. I want to know what makes us tick? Why do events happen at certain times in my life? What is the purpose of my life? Alan Oken says that with this combination the feelings unite with intuition and this is a very helpful aspect for those interested in the occult and metaphysical. There is an understanding of human nature and the individual may become involved with social work or public relations. While C.E.O Carter says, that there is a distinct tendency in the native to interest himself in occultism, science and various cryptic matters to the truly scientific and elative, such as astrology.

I believe Moon trine Uranus offers the ability to be naturally innovative and different. In my outer personality I can be very unconfident, shy and defensive. I have Saturn rising in Virgo opposite Sun in Pisces in 7th. I find it an extremely restrictive contact. On the emotional level and in my domestic sphere (Moon), I do feel free. Its hard living with a natal Saturn rising and facing constant obstacles, lack of success and not achieving success as fast as others. Saturn is testing and extremely challenging on all levels. Yet, when I am in my Moon element, I feel a sense of freedom and innovation and need to try new things. In my outer personality I feel anxious, afraid and hate being pushed into unexpected situations. The Moon is connected to our emotions and feelings and the way we respond to others. With a trine between Moon and Uranus we usually find it much easier to accept changes in this sphere of life. Any change feels like it’s for the better and progress is made.

Beneficial changes can happen in the domestic sphere and Moon-Uranus are always looking for new ways to improve the home. I feel in my element studying astrology and trying to understand how the universe works. My South Node is conjunct my Moon-Mercury conjunction and also trines Uranus in my 3rd house, so maybe in a past life, I developed these interests and was involved in astrology or other occult subjects. Perhaps it has no relation to the past and with the Moon involved in the configuration, I feel familiar and at home (Moon) with astrology (Uranus) and it’s my comfort zone. Others may feel at home with different types of sciences, progressive subjects and they embrace changes in this area.

If the Moon or Mercury, and Hershel (Uranus) be well aspected, they are searches after natures secrets, excellent chymists, and usually profound in the more secret sciences. He gives the most extraordinary magnanimity and loftiness of mind, mixed with an uncontrollable and intense desire, for pursuits or discoveries out of "the track of custom" by A Manual of Astrology.

Composite Chart: First Meeting

When analyzing the composite chart we look at the composite Sun to see what is the meaning and purpose behind the relationship? Read here - Composite Sun in Houses, part one and two. The composite Sun reveals why you have both come together and the potential of the relationship. We can form a composite chart with every single individual in the world, however, there are only a few people that we form close bonds with. When we meet somebody and begin a relationship it sets the composite chart in motion and even if you both break-up, the transits to the composite chart can still reflect changes in that relationship.

The transits to the composite chart can be analysed when a couple first meet. I have personally found this area of composite astrology, quite fascinating. I have been with my partner for 6 years, and when we first met, we had transiting Jupiter conjunct our Libra Ascendant. I think this describes a positive contact and it symbolised the birth of the relationship. Transiting Saturn was also conjunct our composite M.C in Cancer. In a normal horoscope we would read transiting Saturn conjunct the M.C as an ’individual’ that is forming in the outer world, it can mean rewards, promotion, increased responsibility and it often reflects a critical moment in the professional life. Saturn reaching the M.C reaches the cultivation point and the individual takes shape in the world of form. However, with a composite chart we say the ‘relationship’ takes shape and form and crystallizes in the outer world.

Uranus was also transiting through our composite 5th house and formed a square to composite Sun and Moon in Gemini in the 8th house. At the beginning of the relationship I fell pregnant unexpectedly, so the relationship experienced Uranus in the 5th house through a new baby (5th) and sudden changes (Uranus) in the domestic (Moon) life of the relationship. Transiting Uranus square composite Sun, aligned with our core purpose and the relationship went through dramatic changes. Saturn transits to the composite can mean a greater burden, limitation and further responsibility. A relationship under Saturn transits may become more serious and we re-asses the ’relationship's’ goals, limitations and commitment. A powerful Saturn in the composite chart may show greater burdens and limitation in that relationship. However, if the couple work hard they can crystallise their efforts into material form and reap rewards. A natal Sun-Chiron aspect can also show limitation and wounds to the life-force of the relationship.

Let's take the composite Sun-Chiron aspects. I have seen these many times when a relationship involves the unavoidable inclusion of limits from the past. The past may be an ex partner who wants big maintenance payments, or it may be the children from a former marriage. These situations can cause a lot of pain, especially where the children are involved, because no matter how mature and conscious the two people involved are, there will be conflicts, divided loyalties, hurt feelings, and perhaps also financial restrictions. It is not a question of altering attitudes. If a couple do not experience limits in such circumstances, then we probably won't see Sun-Chiron in the composite chart. I have sometimes seen Sun-Chiron in a composite when two people want very badly to have children but are unable to do so. This is a wound which can make two people think much more deeply about the collectively sanctioned "purpose" of a family to give them a direction in life. Another example may be a partnership where there is a great age difference, and the younger partner must watch the other grow old and frail. No amount of love and commitment can turn the clock back. Or there may be a physical handicap in one partner which may be genuinely and deeply accepted, but which limits the mobility of both people. Yet another example is a mixed marriage, or a homosexual relationship, both of which may provoke animosity among neighbours who are xenophobic or too rigid in their definitions of normality. By Liz Greene

The composite chart does not have the individual consciousness of an individual birth chart. Many of the obstacles and blocks in the relationship would have to be accepted on some level. Uranus transits bring changes, excitement, and fluctuation to a relationship. The couple may have a complete change of lifestyle when Uranus transits over the composite Sun. There might be more responsibility at home when transiting Saturn conjuncts the composite Moon, and a couple may be put under extra strain in the domestic sphere and emotional life of the relationship feels much heavier and restrictive.

My composite chart currently reflects the relationship hitting an extremely tough period. We have transiting Pluto square composite Mars in Aries in the 6th house, and we have hit a real rough patch financially. We are finding it extremely difficult to survive and function on an everyday level (6th). Pluto is threatening the potency, drive and initiative of the relationship. Mars has a tendency to feel trapped in the 6th house and there is the possibility of some violent eruptions. In an individual natal chart when transiting Pluto squares Mars, it can show arguments, accidents, violence. It can also show cultivating resourceful qualities and fighting (Mars) for survival (Pluto). In our composite chart it is the relationship that is ‘fighting’ under extreme pressure.

The previous actions and decisions that we have both contributed towards the relationship, may have decided our ‘fate’. I do believe actions accumulate over time and then the big transits trigger the events. I have noticed that the Pluto transit is affecting him more. I have felt the strain too, but many of his natal planets are plugged into composite Mars. The transit is triggering his natal chart, and composite Mars triggers his nodal axis. He has his South Node in Cancer in the 8th house and North node in Capricorn in the 2nd house, and it is forcing him to develop self-sufficiency and resourcefulness (NN Capricorn/2nd). When examining transits we need to see what planets are also being activated in the natal chart. Sometimes a change can affect one individual in the relationship more than the other, and this will be reflected in the individual transits. However, the relationship's first meeting should reveal some powerful transits at work, and the ongoing struggles and life events will unfold, so keep a close eye on transits in the composite chart.

Michael Douglas: Diagnosed with Cancer

I finally got around to looking at Michael Douglas' transits this morning. In mid August he was diagnosed with throat cancer and will undergo chemotherapy and radiation. When he appeared on the Letterman show he revealed the Cancer was at an advanced stage. Michael has particularly tough transits this year, transiting Pluto is conjunct his natal Moon - click here to read more about Pluto-Moon transits. Michael has a cardinal chart and the transits that astrologers have been writing about all year are heavily firing his horoscope. Natally he has a Moon-Saturn opposition and transiting Pluto is conjunct his natal Moon in Capricorn and the transit will complete its opposition to Pluto. Saturn-Pluto is an aspect that is prominent around death, endings and feeling that circumstances are out of our control. In some charts it can mean we are forced out of our job or we change careers completely.

Transiting Pluto also squares his Sun-Neptune conjunction in Libra and sets off his illness (Neptune). Pluto transits are an indication of permanent change; they bring upheaval, crisis and profound change. For some, Pluto transits can be a time when they have a baby, or start a particularly profound relationship (click to read about Angelina Jolie and her turbulent relationship with Billy Bob). Pluto transits are not all about death, but sometimes they do bring these issues upon us. Transiting Saturn squares his Moon and describes his emotional life at the moment. Fear and depression are critical issues around these transits. Transiting Saturn also conjuncts Neptune, and he is currently passing through a transit of Saturn square natal Saturn. This transit forces him to reassess his life. Transiting Saturn is conjunct his natal Mars and can represent angry frustration at his situation. And transiting Uranus is opposite his Sun and square his Moon.

The chart for the next year is hitting off a lot of heavy transits, its probably the most intense transit chart that I have seen for a while. I couldn't go into them all in great detail, but if your interested, you can check out his transits in full below:

Both Catherine and Douglas share the same birthday, obviously not in the same year, her husband is significantly older. However, Catherine's chart is heavy in the cardinal element, due her stellium in Libra. Transiting Saturn is in the middle of her cardinal stellium involving the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus. Transiting Pluto is conjunct Mars in her first house, and this is a particularly challenging time as Pluto erupts violently in her personal life, bringing profound change, and transiting Pluto squares her natal Sun. Both the Sun and Mars are seen as the male figures in the birth chart. Life changing events, crisis and turmoil have entered her life involving her husband (Sun-Pluto). The transiting aspects are exact right now. Natally, Catherine has a Sun-Chiron opposition and this can represent unfair limitations (Chiron) in her relationships with men (Sun). Transiting Pluto is forming a t-square with Mars,Sun, and Chiron, setting of this extremely painful time in her life.

Since both Catherine and Michael share the same zodiacal degree of their Sun in Libra, they have Sun at 2 degrees in Libra in their composite chart. Transiting Pluto is square the composite Sun. So both their natal Sun's are squared by Pluto and the composite Sun. Transiting Saturn has been aspecting both their natal Sun's and composite. Transiting Uranus is square composite Chiron and opposite Mercury, Venus and Jupiter. This is a tough time for the relationship and hopefully they both transition through it together.

Moon-Neptune: The Highs and Lows

I had a question about Moon square Neptune and manic depression. Usually this isn’t indicated alone by Moon-Neptune. What I have read is that the condition seems to be one of dark depression followed by periods of elation and happiness. No single placement or astrological configuration represents the ‘signature’ for manic depression. However, the emotional life of Moon-Neptune may mirror some of the ‘signs’ of manic depression, in regard to the emotional highs and lows of this contact.

Astrologically Moon-Neptune acts like an emotional sponge and there can be an insatiable hunger for love and affection. There is deep longing to be submerged in others. The individual longs for the fantasy world and a place that is far removed from harsh reality. The contact can create deep fears around loneliness and isolation, however, the imagination and depth of feeling can keep them emotionally fulfilled. The negative side of Neptune is addiction, hallucination, disillusionment, escapism, dissatisfaction, and melancholy. There is often a great need to feel needed and to help society in some way. Emotional difficulties and physical illness may be a constant source of unhappiness, or perhaps the mother (Moon) suffered in some way with Neptunian ‘afflictions‘.

C.E.O Carter refers to the Moon-Neptune type as those that end up in some kind of scandal. The female type may be an invalid, recluse or a nagging partner. There is always deep discontentment and high emotional tension and a liability to being deceived by others or to suffer from various forms of disillusion. Carter believes the type can have parasitical tendencies.

Furthermore, there is the martyr type qualities and the victim-hood inherent in this contact. There may also be suffering through various forms of guilt and torment. Moon-Neptune can have dependency needs, poor boundaries and enormous empathy and compassion for all. There is a sense of loneliness and sometimes great sadness too. Liz Greene says that Moon-Neptune types are eternally hungry and yet offers herself or himself up as food to every hungry mouth that comes along. Greene also links the contact to eating disorders.

Marilyn Monroe had a Moon-Neptune aspect across her Asc-Dsc axis forming a t-square with Saturn. The feeling of rejection (Moon-Saturn) and craving emotional fusion (Moon-Nep) can be seen in this extremely tense t-square. Her mother was taken to a psychiatric hospital when she was a little girl and Marilyn's death was accidental suicide, murder or she had taken her own life. The circumstances around her death created a lot of scandal. Anne Frank had Moon-Neptune conjunct in her 2nd house and was the ’medium’ for the millions of people who suffered during the Holocaust, reflecting on their feelings, sadness and suffering.

Aquarius Drawing

I was looking around the web for new Aquarius pictures to update my blog, and I happened upon this video drawing of Aquarius. .You can search the site for other drawings. Sorry about the inconvenience with the change over the weekend. The blog needs a revamp now and again. Most of the pictures and articles need re-editing, and its not even Mercury Retrograde. I will start working through some astrology questions and have some more blog posts up this week. I found some lovely pictures for the air signs over the weekend, click here to see. I love the new Moon in Aquarius picture and I found a nice one for  Pisces too, she's gorgeous. I think I lose myself in art, imagery, music and writing. I little bit of escapism for a while... (Pisces). I am quite obsessed with mermaid pictures, and pictures of women underwater. I think it may have a lot to do with my Moon in Pisces square Neptune in the 4th house. I am interested in the type of art people are drawn to astrologically. I wish I could draw and paint myself. I haven't been blessed with that talent. Enjoy the drawings and I will be back soon with some posts, and there are a lot of Scorpio queries this month.

Transit Table

The movements of the planets and their regular cycles, mean that Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will transit their own natal position at approximately the same age for each person. The types of aspects they make are listed below in the table along with their ages. For example, At age 21, Saturn will square its own natal position, Uranus will also square its own natal position and Pluto forms a Semi-Sextile. This is an important time for major adjustements and it is a time when we consider our career and life path.

T-Squares: Natal and Relational

t-squareThe t-square is an aspect pattern involving two planets in opposition, which are squared by a third planet. The aspects contained in the configuration are highly energetic and conflicting. The relevant planets usually occupy the same quadruplicity and emphasize the inherent dilemma of the cardinal, fixed or mutable quality in the individual birth chart. The configuration can lead to great accomplishment when greater effort is applied to directing the planets. Some t-squares consist of more than 3 planets and the astrologer views this as a powerful feature in the birth horoscope. Oppositions reflect being pulled in two directions, and with a t-square the personality is pulled in all three areas, and this planetary tension challenges one another for expression. It is believed that an individual born with such a configuration in his or her natal chart is presented with more challenges than the average person.

With oppositions there is element compatibility and there can be a compromise reached if planets, signs and houses learn to adapt to one another. This is very much like a relationship between two people. The apex planet, however, is the most antagonistic in the configuration. The apex planet can often be over-emphasized in the individual's personality by sign, but the area of life where the apex planet falls is also extremely important to consider. T-squares are great driving forces in the natal chart and create action, achievement and drive.

The cardinal T-square (planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) is the most ambitious, and it is often good for these people to start their own business and to drive the energy constructively. Cardinal signs tend to initiate new activities and act immediately. They often move towards achievement and are good at getting things started. The fixed t-square (planets in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) is driven by intensity, focus and will-power. These types are less likely to give up and keep going until they reach their goal. In response to changing circumstances, fixed signs tend to persist in acting to according pre-established patterns. The fixed signs can manifest as strength and focus, but negatively, as inflexibility and stubbornness. Mutable t-squares (planets in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) are more suited to the learning environment and they have great adaptability, creativity and drive to learn about their environment.Mutable signs tend to act to new situations by being flexible, but they can also be too pliable and changeable.

Although the t-square is a common configuration there are still many people who do not have a t-square in their natal chart. However, if we have a natal opposition, a t-square can still be formed through our relationships with others. For example, if we have an opposition with our Moon in Taurus and Uranus in Scorpio, anyone with planets in Aquarius or Leo, around those degrees, form a t-square shape to our birth planets. Therefore, the relationship puts added pressure on our natal opposition, but it can also be a highly dynamic pattern in the relationship with that person.  T-squares are not necessarily a bad thing, and they are extremely positive in terms of growth and self-development,.

Sometimes a relationship with a t-square pattern is challenging and stressful, but it depends on how we react to pressure. Another thing to consider is the composite chart, and here we can see if any of these planets ‘trigger’ our natal oppositions, or if the chart itself contains a t-square pattern. In this example, the relationship drives us to develop further and provides some added tension to our birth planets.

Often when we have a natal t-square, someone comes along and ‘fills the empty leg’ of this chart pattern, and this is the house and sign opposite the apex planet. In this case, it would create a grand square configuration. It is really worth looking through our synastry and composite charts, and noting these configurations, and observing how a particular individual drives our self-development or just stresses us out! The same method is also used with planets in trine in our birth chart, and those with planets in the same element and around the same degree would form a grand trine to our horoscope, and could bring benefits and ease into our life. Therefore when looking for these aspect patterns in the natal horoscope, try and look a bit further than the natal chart and look at the relationships formed throughout life.

Air Signs: Rational Vs Emotional

Air signs

The signs expressing the element of air are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Mutable Gemini is constantly on the move making connections, and distributing information. Cardinal Libra directs their intelligence towards strategic relationships, diplomatically bridging opposites and smoothing out conflicts, using logical arguments. Fixed Aquarius rules social ideas and they connect groups of people together. Using Jungian astrology the air signs are the ‘thinking type’ and focus on intellectual understanding. The difficulty represented with the air signs is integrating the emotional side of life.

The air signs are said to favour rationality and reason and can be described in older textbooks books as detached, and interested in the world of ideas. Gemini is represented by the Twins; Libra is represented by the scales, and Aquarius by the water bearer. These are human forms/objects and represent the distinction between man and his bestial nature. Man has the gift of developing a civilised nature. With the use of air we can ‘talk things through’ seek ‘counselling’ and see things from a detached perspective. We can gain objectivity in any situation. If we are feeling stressed we often seek some fresh air outside and go for long walks to clear our heads.

The air signs have high principles, a sense of fairness and are fairly famous for being the less emotionally committed of the zodiac. Gemini hates to be pinned down to relationships; Libra is struggling with indecision and attempting the fine art of balancing self with other. Aquarius is known for his dislike of heavy emotional displays and detaching from personal issues and extending his hand towards universal concerns. Superman dealt with this issue and his love of human kind was constantly challenged by his individual love for Louis Lane, and it signifies the Aquarius-Leo dilemma of head vs. heart. These types can become the victim of their emotions and if the natal chart shows overall a high bias towards the element of air, sometimes the individuals emotions have a tendency to ’take over’ until he/she learns to become more conscious of his feeling nature.

Angular Venus

Venusians can be charming, physically attractive and seductive. Venus conjunct the Asc, IC, DC, or MC, signifies a powerful urge to express this planet in life. Angular planets refer to the four corners of the chart, and planets that are conjunct these points are said to exercise a particularly strong influence over the horoscope. In Mythology, Venus represents the Goddess of Love, named Aphrodite. And she is not the maternal side of femininity, which nurtures and needs to belong with others. On the contrary, Venus seeks pleasure, self-satisfaction and a sense of self-value. Aphrodite doesn’t share herself with anyone and only partners with the gods that she desires. Venus has the power to make anyone, god, or mortal fall in love with her.

Aphrodite can become consumed with erotic longing and desires and she will enchant and seduce a lover with her power of attraction. Venus in a man’s chart signifies his own anima and describes the type of females that he is attracted to and who have that magic ‘pulling power’. Psychologically, Venus represents the need for emotional or material security and the need to feel desired and popular. One of Aphrodite’s extreme characteristics is her vanity, and this makes her highly competitive with other females, she can display jealousy and a certain callousness in her nature. The Goddess named Psyche was condemned to death by Aphrodite, when mortals began to speak of a beauty that rivalled that of the goddess herself.

Venus rules Taurus and Libra and represents the social aspects of her nature and sensuality. Libra is concerned with harmony, grace and the interplay of opposites. Venus’ rulership of Taurus describes self-worth, beauty and the physical senses. It is often said that Venus signifies a woman’s self-image. The urge for love and relationship is personified by Venus, and the choices we make in love often represent what we value the most. The expression of Venus can be seen in the way that we adorn ourselves, our personal taste and response to beauty.

Venus conjunct Ascendant
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie embodies Aphrodite, she has Venus in the 12th house conjunct the Ascendant. Angelina is attractive to others, but may be unaware of her own beauty and hidden charms with Venus locked up inside the 12th house of her horoscope. Angelina seeks security (Cancer) in relationships (Venus) and needs a sense of emotional belonging, and she could be a gentle, elusive type of romantic, but may show possessiveness towards loved ones. Angelina is vulnerable to rejection and places deep importance on developing close and lasting bonds. With Venus in the 12th house there is the desires to care for and nurture (Cancer) people who feel rejected or shut-off from society. There is often confusion and uncertainty (12th) regarding the expression of love, self-worth and value. Angelina Jolie might be unsure of the power of her own desirability, beauty and self-worth.

Venus is square to Uranus and this signifies a need for freedom and excitement in relationships. If things become a little too boring, she can be a rebellious type of Aphrodite. Venus-Uranus in aspect often signifies sudden changes and disruptions in the love life. Venus in Cancer needs to feel that she belongs (lunar expression); whereas Uranus seeks more unusual relating patterns and values the highest of ideals in relationships. The dark anima that we see in Jolie is indicated by her Moon in Aries opposite Pluto.

venus conjunct ic
Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson has Venus conjunct her I.C in Leo. Anderson became famous for her part in Baywatch, and was chosen as playmate of the month, by Playboy magazine in 1990. Venus in Leo needs dramatic love affairs and often love is perceived as giving meaning to life. There can be a tendency to be in love with an ideal image. Venus in Leo can be generous and playful in romance. Pam’s Venus is square to Neptune, and this frequently archetypes the saviour/martyr complex in relationships and she can attract all types of relationships from criminals, alcoholics, drug-dealers and invalids. Aphrodite's square to Neptune loses the ability to see relationships clearly. Pamela’s ex husband Tommy Lee, has been accused of beating Pamela in their marriage.

The fantasy element of Neptune is powerful in her horoscope. Pamela is worshipped by millions of men worldwide and was one of their favourite pin-up's. Venus-Neptune relates to others compassionately, and on the positive side they are attracted to musicians, artists, dreamers. Venus-Neptune is always searching for a soulmate.

venus conjunct dsc
Glenn Close
Glenn Close has Venus conjunct her descendant in Aquarius opposite Pluto. Glenn is most famous for her role as Alex Forrest in Fatal (Pluto) Attraction (Venus). The story is about a successful editor who has an affair with a married man. However, Alex’s mental instability makes it extremely difficulty for her to end the relationship with her lover, and she becomes obsessed (Pluto) and even tries to kill her rival (his wife). It is interesting that Glenn Close was chosen to play the role of the stalking Aphrodite! Venus-Pluto can represent a kind of intensity that tries to force love on others and the aspect can alternate between extremes and can be possessive, smothering, jealous and the relationship may have a ‘Till death do us part’ embodiment. Venus-Pluto also finds it difficult to forgive a lover when betrayed. And their Intensity can often be overwhelming to more detached types. Venus in Aquarius is friendly in love and enjoys social connections.Glenn Close also played evil lady villain, Cruella De Vil, and the revengeful Marquise de Merteuil, in Dangerous Liaisons.

venus conjunct mc
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe has Venus in Taurus conjunct the M.C and this placement represents our vocation. It is often how the public ‘views us‘. Venus trines Neptune in the 1st house and she was the physical embodiment of men’s fantasies and was seen as highly desirable. The sensual (Taurus) beauty and idealism in relationships is a strong feature in her horoscope. You can see some of Aphrodite’s expression through these women's horoscopes.

The Librian aspect of Venus reveals not only aesthetic beauty, but Aphrodite is also intellectual and uses her strategic skills to get what she desires and this can be through self-adornment or the clever and articulate use of charm. Venus in her negative expression signifies vanity, self-absorption, laziness and so forth. However, to get away with it, she is often charming to a fault! An interesting observation is observing that three of these pin-ups have a Venus-Neptune-twelfth-house connection.

Composite Sun in Houses: Part 2

Read - Composite Sun in Houses Part One

Sun in 7th: This relationship indicates a primary focus on sharing, diplomacy and romance. As a couple the drive is towards harmony and through operating as a single unit to attract others. Its important for this partnership to find social connections with others. The relationship may be bound up to the public in some way. Rob Hand believes that this placement predisposes couples to marriage. However, Liz Greene believes that this is more of a statement for others to acknowledge the relationship itself and it is not always based on romantic reasons. The feedback is vitally important and the couple may live through others.

Sun in 8th House: The relationship may be private and heavily intimate. Transformation is the core purpose behind this relationship. The primary focus is on joint resources but the purpose and meaning behind of the bond is to understand the emotions underlying it. As a couple you are thrown into crisis periodically and may as part of the development, deal with a difficult emotional issue. The relationship may even be a taboo or  secret liaison. Compulsions and dramatic emotional experiences dominate and the couple can be potentially changed forever.

Sun in 9th House: As a couple you may travel together, emigrate, or the relationship is centred on religion, philosophy or learning. The relationship will expand personal horizons and perhaps you both explore the world together or attend seminars, lectures and classes. The meaning behind you two getting together is central around a growth in consciousness. Adventures both intellectual and physical can be experienced.

Sun in 10th House: This may indicate a couple focused on their careers, running a professional business. The public image of the relationship maybe important and the relationship is driven towards achievement and sense of making something tangible together. Either through status or recognition. At core you are an ambitious couple who want to contribute to society in someway.

Sun in 11th House: When the composite Sun falls in the house friendship it may indicate a couple whose goal and purpose is geared towards defining their friendship. Humanitarian, political and group activities may form the part of your involvement together. As a couple you may both share similar interests and goals, and the relationship may lose some its individuality as the life-force of the partnership is placed in the 11th house sector of humanity, its people and the collective.

Sun in 12th House: This is another indicator of a possible secret affair and the relationship is kept hidden for various reasons. The relationship may involve a sacrifice of some kind. The energy of the relationship is sometimes given to spiritual values, compassionate causes and it may even be difficult to keep a clear sense of boundaries in this relationship. A 12th house Sun is often a medium for the larger collective and the couple have to give something up.

Jupiter Conjunct Uranus in Pisces 2010

Jupiter Uranus conjunct in Pisces and the Church

I have a very religious post for Sunday, which is in keeping with the Pope’s first visit to England, since 1982, and the mass is being filmed live on television. Furthermore, the event is in keeping with the current and critical (degree) Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Pisces. Gordon Brown extended a formal invitation to the Pope back in 2009, and he said that it would be a momentous occasion for the country and a celebration. The news headlines read: Papal visit to the U.K Offers Hand of ‘Friendship’ (Uranus). The Pope's visit has brought up the topical issue of how we can be both modern in our worldview (Uranus) and religious (Jupiter).

"Today, the United Kingdom strives to be a modern and multicultural society. In this challenging enterprise, may it always maintain its respect for those traditional values and cultural expressions that more aggressive forms of secularism no longer value or even tolerate." The Pope also praised Britain's fight against Hitler's "atheist extremism", saying that "Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live".

Since transiting Jupiter and Uranus retrograded back into the sign of Pisces, the emphasis for this period has been highly religious. If we consider the astrological meaning of the planets and sign involved in this conjunction it will clarify the events surrounding this time. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, and in Greek Mythology he is the King of law and Justice. Jupiter rules moral absolutes, beliefs, religion and rules both Sagittarius and Pisces. When Jupiter is transiting through the sign of Pisces it is placed in the sign of its rulership and the issues become far more relevant.

Video Wall of Jupiter-Uranus in Pisces Conjunction...

Uranus rules the intelligent power behind life, and is often referred to as the sky god and reflects the urge to understand the overall design and pattern of life. Uranus illuminates the sign which it transits through and also the planets that comes into contact with. Collectively, religion (Jupiter) and spirituality (Pisces) has been illuminated during this critical juncture. The controversial burning of the Koran was an act of rebellion (Uranus) by a U.S Pastor (Jupiter) regarding his opposing world view, philosophy, and religion. The unexpected (Uranus) happenings involving the church (Jupiter) stirred up mass excitement around the Globe. The burning of the Koran was to take place on 9/11 and this created anti- American protests across Afghanistan. The transit appeared to highlight the need for tolerance (Uranus) of others beliefs (Jupiter) and also to cross boundaries and feel empathy, understanding and sense of oneness with everyone (Pisces). Pisces is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac and rules the collective, redemptive and spiritual power. Pisces signifies the universal perspective of life, and the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Pisces symbolises this open air mass (Uranus) and union of brothers and sisters at a religious gathering (Jupiter).

In a previous post, I discussed the large television events and mass gatherings surrounding a Jupiter- Uranus contact. This particular mass gathering is reflected by the Pope’s visit to England and has attracted 50,000 visitors. Although the event has attracted fewer people than expected. The Catholic community have been in celebration all morning. However, the event has also attracted protests (Uranus) against the Pope’s visit and anger over the cover up of child abuse within the church. Another event that is being held today is the commemoration of the Battle of Britain and the royals are taking part in the service (Pisces) at Westminster Abbey, in remembrance of the air campaign (Uranus) that won the battle against the Nazi's. Jupiter-Uranus often marks celebratory periods and the service is being followed by aircraft flying past and this combination also rules flight!

Composite Sun in Houses:Part 1

The composite chart is the horoscope of two people in a relationship combined. The midpoints between the two Ascendants pool together to form a new ascendant. The midpoints between the two natal Sun’s give a new Sun sign and house for the relationship chart. The composite chart is like giving birth to a whole new entity, and signifies the two people in the relationship having one purpose (Sun) or one set of emotional needs (Moon) and one way of communicating (Mercury) and so forth.

The composite chart represents the relationship as a totality, and the Sun rules the major focus of any partnership.  Therefore we would look to the sign and house placement of the astrological composite Sun, to understand where the central concerns are in the partnership and the purpose and meaning behind the relationship coming together. Below is a brief overview of the Sun in the first six houses of the composite chart and interpretations.

Sun in 1st House: This shows a couple that strongly identify with one another and their impact as a couple is powerful. According to Liz Greene, “People open up in ways that they may not do when around others. Sometimes this can be disruptive. A couple walk through a room and suddenly somebody starts a punch up in the corner, and that happens to be the moment that the lights blow. Things tend to be activated in the environment when there is a couple with a 1st house composite Sun around. Light is cast in dark corners and things get energized which might otherwise remain asleep." In general, people are affected by this couple and the strength and style of their impact can be studied by looking at the composite Sun sign. The composite Sun in the 1st house likes to start things off first, and radiate confidence as a couple. Perhaps they are both leaders in their field or a pioneering couple and they certainly know how to set a scene. The Sun in 1st house couple tends to do things first and others follow.

Sun in 2nd house: The Sun in 2nd house couple have shared values and focus upon money, spending and finances in general. This is a self-sufficient pair and their self worth as a couple are prime concerns. Often with composite Sun in the 2nd or 8th house there is a focus on the couple’s resources and how they sustain themselves within the relationship as a unified entity. However, the relationship may be overly focused on all that is dependable and trusted and provides them with basic security needs and things which do not threaten their safety. The orientation of this partnership may be material and they might both be collectors, or share the same spiritual values, and both have a desired focus on finances. Hilary and Bill Clinton have their Sun in the 2nd house of Virgo, signifying a focus on helping others or working together. This is an earthy composite Sun and the relationship is grounded and they focus primarily on their work, resources and the development of personal skills. The composite Sun is square to Uranus in the 11th house in Gemini, and this could represent their very political (Uranus in 11th) relationship. And with Venus in Libra in the 3rd house of the composite it is also all about diplomacy! Libra rules negotiations, what’s fair, politeness and reaching a balanced and clear (Libra) view (3rd).

Sun in 3rd House: Indicates that communication is the focus of the partnership and may show a side to the couple that likes to keep the relationship light. The 3rd house relates to local transport, messages, writing, and siblings. Life as a couple may involve travel, witty conversations, lots of newspapers and books around the place. The couple may enjoy talking, discussing, debating and  share many interests or distractions in this partnership. They both may enjoy learning together, sharing, and will grow in areas of intellectual exchange. Socializing and networking may be at the center of their lives. Some people with the Sun in Gemini’s house have even related to feeling like twins/siblings. Interactions are important in this relationship and channels must always be kept open to talk.

Sun in 4th house: A domestic focus is powerful in this relationship, as the Sun is placed in the heart of the house and mutual concern for family and relatives is a primary drive. The couple may come from the same family background and there may be strong familiarity between them both. Both families may play a large role in the relationship and the focus is on nurturing, feeding and providing. Safety may also be a concern for this couple, and like the 2nd house there is conscious goal aimed towards security. The home life is central and the relationship may make them want to settle down and set-up home.

Sun in 5th house: A strong romantic and dramatic couple with a powerful focus on children and shared creativity. Attention on romantic affairs and bringing out the best potential regarding each others creative endeavors is the best use of this energy. They may both be artists, or share a love of children. They might work in artistic fields where self-expression in the union is paramount. Both of them like to have fun and drama in their lives together, and they may be an attention seeking couple. Others notice their strong, dramatic style, and as a couple they enjoy pleasure seeking pursuits: Partying, hobbies, sports, art and entertainment are all enjoyed.

Sun in 6th house: The partnership is focused on helping others or working together. Liz Greene says, “The composite Sun doesn’t shine as overtly as it does on the composite MC or Ascendant. The energy of the relationship usually flows into everyday life. The composite Sun requires living in the moment. The core of the relationship serves others in some practical way. The 6th house is known as the house of healing, and the relationship may serve to heal not only others but the couple themselves. Also, there may be a shared love of skill and craft. The 6th house doesn’t necessarily involve boring responsibilities; don’t forget that this is Mercury’s natural house. The composite Sun in the 6th house suggests a relationship which needs to “do” something useful in life. It is not focused on making a lasting impact on the world, like the composite Sun in 10th house, but often great satisfaction comes from creating something together that makes everyday life better and more rewarding."

Rebel Without a Cause: The Uranian Man!

Uranus rebel James DeanThe Uranus type of man represents those rebellious, progressive and free spirits in society. The movie and archetype for this individual is Rebel Without a Cause. The film is about a group of young delinquents. Jim, (played by James Dean) is a new teen in town, and he rebels against his parents, police authorities and school. The young teen is arrested on a drunk and disorderly charge one night at the station and meets the lovely Judy, who is acting wildly in frustration over her cold and distant father (Uranus).

Things don't run smoothly for the rebel and he gets involved in a dispute at school with a bully named Buzz. After watching The Big Bang theory, at the planetarium, he goes outside and witnesses Buzz slashing his car tyres. The two fight outside and Jim, holding the razor sharp edge of a knife to Buzz's throat, wins. Jim is challenged to race him in a “chicken run”, and anxious to fit in, (Saturn) he agrees to race. At the top of a cliffside they speed towards the edge, and whoever jumps out of the car first, loses. The story about a group of self-willed teens signifies the search for a” cause” and pursuing the ideal. The movie has tragic consequences as one boy plummets to his death. The teens in the movie are outsiders, outcasts and youngsters living on the edge, they don‘t fit in. Most of the problems are due to a lack of an authority figure/father. Jim views his father as the henpecked husband and it’s difficult for him to have respect for such a man.  Wild teens/gangs are ruled by Uranus, and he is considered the divine rebel of the planetary gods. Jim, is the classic misunderstood teen rebel.

The Uranian man wants change, freedom, and progression, and rules, boundaries and restrictions, limit him from living out his full potential. Uranus men may be seen as misfits, social outcasts and odd, and he doesn't always do what is expected. A powerful Uranian man acts like a vibrant force in the lives of others, running through like an electrical current, shocking others and stirring up excitement.

His intent is to break free from conventional attitudes and controlling forces, but may find himself in trouble with the government, police and the system. He resists anything traditional and repressive and is often viewed as an uncooperative and explosive force, in fact, usually sudden and shocking events surround him. The Uranian man may be prone to fits of violence and lives life on his own terms. Many people doubt him and see him as too much of a “wild card” and urge him to take more responsibility. Others will try and suppress his energy, and this he will violently resist. The Uranian man is usually innovative and exciting, but never dull.

Not all Uranian men are law breakers/rebels or misfits. Another expression of Uranus is high intelligence and originality, and this may be someone who has the mind of an inventer,  foretelling new trends ahead of our time. Friends and other like minded individuals are important, and he feels less isolated. Gang culture has survived so long in society as most Uranians are not bound to family through blood ties. Uranian people may also enjoy the Internet and joining groups that hold the same ideals. Technology, Science, electricity, aviation and space are all Uranus pursuits, even an interest in other subjects like extra-terrestrials, astrology, or the occult. Uranian energy also signifies detachment, and sometimes detachment can be a good thing, because he sees things from a clearer perspective. In extreme cases, they suffer from mental or nervous instability. Those with Uranus aspects will often state their "truth" in an extremely opinionated fashion, and don't care what others think, and in social situations he may cause embarrassment with sudden outbursts and tirades. The Uranus impulse is unpredictable and acts as an agent for change in the environment, but some tend to stand out like a sore thumb at school or other conventional places; it is difficult to put him into a straight jacket.

The Uranian man intuits that there is more to life and most life events come “out of the “blue“, so be prepared for the unexpected. In the worse case scenario, he ruthlessly imposes his ideas with tyranny and radical idealism. Uranians can be the movers, shakers and iconoclasts of our generation and the urge for freedom can be expressed internally. Be prepared, because he might not want to go down the traditional route of marriage and children and if he does, he must always have freedom to explore his potential, he never wants to feel trapped and stifled in a relationship. Uranian's refuse to live a banal and ordinary life that is drab. The 9-5 job can be suffocating, so he often needs his own hours. If he feels something is old, outworn, and past its sell by date, he seeks to change it.

Fool Tarot Card AstrologyIn the tarot, the Fool represents Uranus, a wild youth. It signifies the impulse to jump into the unknown and live close to the edge. The "fool" never plans anything and just lives with his ideals. The tarot card is reminiscent of the scene in "Rebel Without a Cause", when Jim and Buzz are standing at the edge of the cliff. Through extreme recklessness, Buzz, fly's off the edge and plummets to his death. The Fool in the tarot card depicts a man with a dog and he has no idea that he is standing directly above the abyss. Sometimes Uranians are literally so close to the edge of their minds/sanity that  they suffer from reckless accidents through impulsive nature. People may call him foolish, but he tries the untested, even if he doesn’t know the path that lies before him.

The Uranian man is in your life for a reason, and he is trying to get you in touch with your unexplored potential, and to live life on the wild side now and again. To live with more freedom and caring less about what others think, is to really be free. When this guy crashes into your life things are never going to be the same. Encounters with him are lively, exciting and enlivening and it will be totally different from anyone or anything you may have  experienced before. Uranus is electric, magnetic, unusual and spontaneous. If you like to keep things moving and enjoy new experiences; the Uranian man can be just what you need. Uranus is all about the experimental, the original, eccentric and different. Uranus spins horizontally on its axis in space and is ruled by air, the lightest and freest of all the elements.

The Lot of Fortune

Pluto reminds me of the Wheel of Fortune, I understand that Pluto would relate to the death card in the tarot deck and that Jupiter is connected to the wheel of fortune, but Pluto also leads to changes in destiny. I believe that when Jupiter and Pluto are connected in the birth horoscope or come together during a transit, it may reveal a time in life when there are great changes in a person's fortune, but the wheel can turn either way. The wheel of fortune doesn’t mean things always turn out “beneficially” and the astrological wheel itself could be viewed in the same way.

The image of the wheel itself is a profound one, for the moving of the wheel is like the panorama of life which we encounter; but the hub remains still at the centre, a constant and unchanging essence. The hub is like the hidden self which ‘chooses’ (although it is no choice of the conscious ego) to turn itself toward various situations, events, paths and people. Fate does not come to meet us; rather, we turn to meet our fate. Thus the Wheel of Fortune is more than a significator of change. It is the herald of a profound inner journey through which the Fool, the image of ourselves, radically comes to terms with his own destiny. By Liz Greene

Before the discovery of Pluto, astronomers referred to the unknown body as Planet X and this might have something to do with uncovering our hidden treasures and inner resources. Astrologer James R Lewis has some interesting ideas surrounding the planet's original nickname.

Astrologers have not generally considered, however, how alternative names - or especially, older, abandoned ones - might shed light of the meaning of the celestial body. Pluto for example, is associated with X-rays, sex, (Which in contemporary society, is x-rated), and the unearthing of what is hidden (as in the X marks the spot in treasure maps). These are all meanings of Pluto that could have been derived from reflection on the significance of the "X" in the designation of planet X. "X" is also the symbol for multiplication (the Pluto principle of sex "multiplies"). In Roman numerals, "X" is the number 10. If the asteroid belt is considered to be the remains of a planet, Pluto is the tenth-outermost planet in the solar system. It was also the tenth celestial body to be included in the delineation of astrological charts. Additionally, "X" is the common designation for Christ (as in Xmas), which links Pluto with the redemptive drama central to Christianity: Christ's death on the cross (another "X"), followed by his resurrection (death and rebirth are both ruled by Pluto.

Phil Spector

Phil Spector murders Lana Clarkson
The Murder of Lana Clarkson
Phil Spector is an American Songwriter and producer; he was in the music business from 1953 and worked with artists such as the Beatles and the Ramones. His personality was sometimes described as reclusive and withdrawn. After a particularly violent car crash in 1974, he suffered serious head injuries, and needed over 300 stitches to his face and over 400 to the back of his head. Spector reporter that his mental health was not stable and that he had bipolar and considered himself relatively insane. In 2003, actress Lana Clarkson was found dead and killed by gun in Spector’s home. Yet, the music producer claimed that it was an “accidental suicide” and that she kissed the gun. The trial began in 2007, (4 years after the actress’s death) and the judge allowed the trial to be televised. At the start of the trial the defence was accused of hiding crucial evidence and the judge declared a mistrial because the jury was hung.

His father committed suicide when Phil was still only a child. Ben Spector, parked his car a few blocks away from the family home and poisoned himself with carbon monoxide, after his death the family moved away. Scientists have conducted various studies to understand if depression is inherited and some conclude that it does indeed run in families, whilst others firmly believe there is no connection. According to the astrology, Phil, has inherited his father’s depression and is predisposed to introspective brooding and a serious nature.

Dynamics of the Unconscious by Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas, is an excellent book detailing depression. In Part Two, astrologer Liz Greene looks at the astrological significations that may lean towards depression in the natal chart.
I will now make a sweeping generalisation, but sweeping though it is, I think it is valid. There are two astrological signs which are inherently prone to depression - Scorpio and Capricorn. These signs tend to express their problems through a symbol of depression because depression in a strange way serves their purposes. Capricorn favours depression over other expressions of inner conflict because depression serve’s Capricorn’s inherent sense of guilt. It is a good vindication of what a miserable lot it is to be alive anyway, and what a wretched place the world is, and what a thoroughly appalling person one is oneself. Scorpio favours depression because it is an excellent and effective form of expressing vindictive anger while remaining blameless in the eyes of others; and also depression keeps others out. One can nurse one’s wounds in privacy.
Phil Spector’s Sun (father) is in Scorpio’s house (8th) which is also known as the house of “death” and is placed in the sign of Capricorn. The Sun is in a dark place in this sector of the chart and it shows an ambitious, hard working nature, early hardship and self-sufficiency (Capricorn). The 8th house Sun reveals a resourceful, powerful and secretive self. Capricorn tends to mistrust life and the sign is prone to isolation, loneliness and depression. Saturn and Pluto the rulers of the aforementioned sign/house are in square to one another. Phil Spector is a suspicious and mistrustful character and the contact often carries a feeling of persecution, there are lessons in survival and resourcefulness, but it can sometimes show anxiety, fears and phobias and an attempt to control the environment.

The Sun in the 8th house rules the inheritance from the father, suggesting that he has “inherited” his father’s depression and is fighting the same demons that tormented him until his death. Astrologer Sue Tompkins describes this placement as having a strong “psychic” tie with the father. The Sun is also square to a 5th house Neptune, showing a creative and artistic nature, the adoption of his children (5th) and the longing to be somebody special/famous. It also describes escapist tendencies and seeing his father (Sun) as a victim in life (Neptune). Gases and poisons are ruled by Neptune and describes his father’s death. Although not all charts are always this descriptive. The Sun is also square to Jupiter in Aries, symbolising confidence and potency but it tends to inflate his personality and he can also deflate. Growth and opportunity to expand (Jupiter) his contacts (11th) and an enterprising leader that sets trends in his field, is also reflected in this placement.

Spector was born with Gemini rising (media, communication, and writing) with chart ruler Mercury in detriment in Sagittarius in the 7th house (expansive, travel, LOTS of contacts). Mercury is square to Mars in Pisces (mutable) and astrologer Charles Carter says that mutable signs around the 22nd degree and hard Mercury-Mars contacts are often linked to mental illness. The Moon is in its own sign of Cancer describing a protective nature. The Moon is in the 2nd house of possessions, ownership and inner resources. The need to feel secure is a powerful feature in this natal chart. The Moon and Cancer represent emotional connections and feelings that make an individual feel secure and the 2nd house relates to physical objects for a sense of safety. The combination can signify deep feelings of insecurity. Venus is in tight, fixed opposition to Pluto showing challenges in love regarding possessions, resources, power and control. Spector has unhealthy relating patterns, and is extremely jealous and possessive of his mates.

Major Life Events

Phil Spectors car accident happened during Pluto’s transit in Libra in his 5th house square to his Sun in Capricorn in the 8th house. Apparently he was close to death and his heart beat was extremely faint. Pluto transits are common at the time of trauma and life changing events. The event would have been particularly haunting in retrospect to his father’s death (Sun in 8th) and may have brought up some painful memories and possibly triggered the descent into depression.

At the time of Lara Clarkson's murder on the 3rd of February 2003, transiting Saturn was square to Mars:
“Because he uses excessive force to try to overcome his unsuccessful efforts, he may antagonize others and start fights and arguments. Worse than this, he may cause accidents and mishaps. The person should be very careful with machinery, appliances, tools, automobiles, and other mechanical devices. It is an especially dangerous time to handle guns, weapons or any form of artillery." By James Braha
Astrologically Mars-Saturn is considered to be a violent combination or simply a time when one’s actions meet with resistance and blockages and therefore it can be an extremely frustrating time. Transiting Pluto which was opposite Saturn also squared natal Mars:
“This difficult transit can bring arguments, accidents and violence. The person takes risks without thinking and does not realize he is in danger. He should avoid criminals and hostile person’s during the several years of this period. He reacts with anger, rage, or fierce competitiveness. The person’s sex drive increases tremendously. He must, however beware of forcing attention on uninterested or unwilling partners. It is an especially poor time for love relationships. The person or his mate acts wilful, harsh, or cruel.” By James Braha
I have observed a lot of meltdowns during a Mars-Pluto transit, suppressed anger explodes with an episode of sudden violence or self-destructiveness. The transits at the time Spector was finally convicted of murdering Lana shows transiting Saturn conjunct his I.C and squaring ALL of his angles. Usually Saturn transits mark a time when our karmic bill is due and we have to meet the consequences of our past actions. It rules time, limitation and frustration. Transiting Saturn also formed a square his chart ruler Mercury in Sagittarius/7th house. His legal affairs (7th) didn’t go well and perhaps it predicts he would be disappointed with the outcome. Transiting Uranus was also conjunct his natal Mars in the 11th house - and he is literally fighting (Mars) for his freedom (Uranus). Transiting Pluto was conjunct his Sun in Capricorn in the 8th house and reflects another drastic change in fortune and  he is entrenched in very deep and troubled water (Pluto in 8th house) and the events are out of his control. Phil Spector’s inner conflicts were unresolved and he is now left to suffer in his own personal hell.

Touted as a creative genius in his heyday, Spector's notorious inner demons gradually got the better of him. Creativity and evil live in close quarters in artists like Spector. In his case, evil eventually won out. On Monday, the jury convicted Phil Spector of second degree murder. Based on my limited knowledge of the evidence, I believe that Lana Clarkson's death was probably accidental. It seems likely, given his reported reckless behavioural history, that when Clarkson rejected his sexual advances and tried to leave, Spector angrily and characteristically drew his pistol in a dramatic, machismo effort to have her stay, sticking it right in her face. Only this time, the gun went off. And the so-called mad genius of rock music may spend the remainder of his colourful life behind bars, in some ways a tragic victim of his demons: childhood inferiority feelings, narcissistic rage, compensatory grandiosity, bitterness, alcohol abuse, drivenness, and his dangerous daimonic genius--the roots of which he never really consciously confronted, accepted, comprehended or came to terms with. Aries Quotes

aries quotes"Aries is self motivated and doesn't need to seek approval, permission or cooperation of others. Typically, planets in Aries (and the Arien type generally) just want to do things n their own way; that is, not to be hampered, constrained or fettered by anyone or even by the energies described by other factors. Planets in Aries (in hard aspect) will often give rise to a feeling of frustration. This is sometimes because there can be 'taking over' quality and tendency to butt in uninvited in those with this sign strong. Others may not take kindly to such interference and may make efforts to block it." By Sue Tompkins, The Contemporary Astrologers Handbook

"The Jason myth doesn't, however, end happily ever after. It highlights in a certain way the dangers confronting Aries on his quest. Jason is a kind of failed Aries, where Robin Hood is a successful one. His failure, wouldn't you know, is due to his treatment of women. In order for Jason to capture the golden fleece, he must enlist the aid of a sorceress-princess, Medea. Now Medea, daughter of the King on Colchis, falls widely in love with Jason. He's so bold, so heroic, so brave, so courageous, so noble. She is even willing to sacrifice the life of her brother to help him, so deeply in love is she. Everything goes well enough, until they return. All that golden fleece goes to Jason's woolly head. He begins to behave more like a very stupid sheep than a golden ram. He tries to discard Medea in favour of a younger, more suitable princess. This is the problem with Aries: once he's reached his goal, he often forgets the help he received along the way." By Liz Greene, Astrology for Lovers

"Aries is very aware of himself and constantly striving to grow. He knows he is full of energy and ever seeks the right direction for its release. It is often that he must be willing to play the part of the sacrificial lamb. By this it is meant that he will often have to associate himself with a great cause and align personal desires, which are many, with something larger than his individual self-hood. Thus he will resonate himself with a greater unit of being and propel himself forward into life at the same time. The ultimate aim of the Aries vibration is to seed: to give out thoughts, life energy, and love so that these may be firmly implanted in Taurus which turns them permanent and helps them to grow." By Alan Oken, Complete Astrology

"Desire seems like a straightforward emotion, but it's actually very complicated. It can be aroused by lust, hunger, and jealousy, yet the desire to better oneself can also serve a higher good. Chivalry was designed so that the strong wouldn't abuse the weak. Over time it evolved into a code of honour that serves as the cornerstone for the armed forces as well as our police, firefighters, and emergency rescue units-which are all ruled by Mars. We're familiar with the idea that might makes right. Chivalry glorified the ideal that it takes a lot of might to make right." By Christopher Renstrom, Ruking Planets

"Aries often seems to spark confrontations with others. The exalted Sun (ego) is very powerfully placed. Aries may be unconsciously treating others, especially women, disrespectfully. Aries of both sexes who complain of having few women friends may discover that they do not make much effort in this direction Women are usually powerless and therefore not always going to seem as interesting to Aries men. For this reason, Aries parents might listen to the unconscious signals they are communicating to their daughters. The same is true of Aries grandparents and their granddaughters. Recently an Aries grandma was overheard remarking to her son within earshot of her young grandchildren, "Lisa gets better grades than Bobby. It's such a shame when the girl inherits the brains in the family. I mean, she's just going to get married when she grows ups." Grandma herself is a successful businesswoman. She has few women Friends. She constantly recounts stories of her son's success, but seldom those of her equally successful daughter." By Kahtleen Burt, Archetypes of the Zodiac

"Aries is not content with an inner sense if divinity and destiny. It is impelled to conquer out there in the world. Although belief in a special mission or cause may be extremely important for Aries, it is actually the most pragmatic of the fire signs, and the vision must be made manifest in some way. The mission mean nothing unless it is acts upon and can change outer reality and vindicate the sense of being first and best. Aries is a crusader. Why do people go on crusades? Crusading my be seen as a defence. It is a very aggressive one, but a defence nonetheless. Why are we impelled to go and convert heathens, with or without consent?

Yes. The crusading spirit may be a defence against one's own inner doubts. God might exist, or, perhaps even worse, one's own vision of God might not be the right one after all. Then one is a mere muddled mortal, and not first, best, or divinely inspired. The crusading spirit is also an affirmation of divine potency. The more people one can awaken and inspire, the more one's potentcy is proven. This is the same spirit that drives Don Juan on his endless sexual conquests. The more women he conquers, the more potent he appears in his own eyes. We have come full circle, back to the Oedipal pattern so characteristic of this fire sign." By Liz Greene, Barriers and Boundaries

"The association of Aries with the head in medical astrology reflects its two rulers, Mars and Athene. When a prophecy was made to Zeus that a child born from his own union with Metis would one day supplant him, he quickly decided to put an end to Metis and her pregnant child, and therefore swallowed them both. One day he was consumed by a raging headache so great that he asked Hephaestus, the smith god, to us his hammer and split open his head. At that instant, out popped Pallas Athene, fully grown, dressed in armour, helmet and sword. (Thus, Hephaestus became the midwife for Athne). Such headaches occur for people who are about to give birth to some enormous idea, event, person, or experience in their life. The creativity may be swelling inside of them, bursting at the seams, and they may have no apparent way to release it." By Ariel Guttman, Kenneth Johnson, Mythic Astrology

Britney Spears: Pluto and Abuse Allegations

Pluto transits
Pluto transits: Accusations of sexual harassment and abusing children.
Britney Spears is facing a new crisis regarding claims by her former bodyguard, Fernando Flores. The allegations state that she sexually harassed him and that he witnessed her abusing the children. A lawsuit has been filed against the star by her former companion. The Department of Children and Family Services conducted a proper investigation surrounding Flores accusations and quickly closed the case without further action. Flore has claimed that Britney exposed herself to him several times and made unwanted sexual advances towards him.

The event is perfectly timed astrologically; transiting Pluto in Capricorn (manipulation, abuse, and crisis) is currently aspecting ALL of her angles to the exact degree (Asc, Desc, I.C, and M.C). Pluto transits have a slower cycle and it has been a slow process transforming and uprooting her life completely. It has been one of the most difficult transits in Britney’s life so far. Pluto began with the breakdown of her marriage and divorce form Kevin Federline; she then shaved all her hair off in a quick bid for transformation and renewal. The singer attacked a car with a baseball bat, had a complete mental break down and the final blow was having her children taken away and full custody given to ex husband, Federline.

What is it about Pluto transits that bring such crisis and destruction in her personal life? Pluto transits bring upheaval, transforming and life changing events. Pluto tends to breakdown existing areas of security and it often involves power struggles with others. During a transit of Pluto we may meet people who try and manipulate us, blacken our character, reveal secrets or abuse us in some way. How Britney handles this next crisis will determine how far she has come and will test those developing survival instincts. Fernanado Flores could be described as a snake in the grass (Pluto symbol) with his vindictiveness, venomous, vengeful and sly nature. Britney also has to face her own inner demons, destructive rage and unresolved emotions from the past. Pluto arules buried treasure and in crisis we can find the spiritual and emotional “resources” to cope. Pluto often takes away our innocence, naivety and trust in life. We may have to face the darker side of human nature. We may also feel vulnerable and powerless during heavy duty Pluto transits and exposed to the seamier and murkier side of life. The types of individual’s we meet during Pluto transits could be described as Plutonian, someone who is ruthless, hateful and raging.

Transiting Pluto conjunct I.C affects her family, roots, father and early childhood. The accusations that she has hurt her own children are bound to be extremely painful. I would imagine she would feel insecure and unsure who to trust. Emotional confrontations are common and she has to be careful about the high toxic level in her environment. For her own protection, she will need to learn some key survival tools. Natally she has both Saturn and Pluto in the 1st house suggesting power and control issues and she resists attempts to be controlled by others. Venus in Capricorn is square Saturn and Pluto reflects some difficulties in relationships. Saturn-Pluto is a suspicious, mistrustful and powerfully dominating combination. The Pluto transit is bringing major upheaval to her sense of identify, (Asc) personal life (I.C) relationships with others (Dsc) and career (M.C).

Moon in 8th House

moon in 8th house

The Moon in the 8th house has been linked with the death of the mother. However, those with the Moon placed here may not have experienced the death of mother. An 8th house mother may have been perceived as over-protective, smothering and manipulative and so the child felt suffocated. There may have been an extremely close and loving bond with her. Pluto and the 8th house also rule abandonment, trauma, crisis, family secrets, legacies and skeletons hidden in the closet. The experience of an 8th house Moon or Moon aspecting Pluto may signify the death of mother. Still, this is not the ONLY experience, and usually there may have been something in the family background that created a situation where the child felt unsafe, threatened and exposed to the darker elements of human nature. Unconsciously, an over-protective mother can create this unsafe feeling in her child. The mum often protects him/her with the best of intentions, but it creates a heightened sensitivity (Moon) to danger (Pluto) and if the mother feels unsafe, the child is highly receptive to those feelings.

 Sexual Abuse

Popular American actress, Sandra Dee, has her Moon conjunct Pluto. Her Mother and Father split up when she was young and she remarried a man 40 years her senior. At 8 years old, Sandra, slept between them in the bed and was the target of sexual abuse by her step-father. She never told her mother, but she believed her mother did know the truth and chose to ignore what happened. Sandra would have felt unprotected by her mother and the one person who we “expect” to keep us safe and protected from harm.

Death of Mother/Rejection

John Lennon’s chart reflected the early death of his mother and the rejection and abandonment he felt. John was prone to jealousy in relationships and it is associated with the early bonding with his mother. If any of us have a problem with jealousy and fear of abandonment, we need to re-examine our past and see where the problem is rooted. We can’t live fearing that those that we love will reject or abandon us. If we experience the early death of our mother, it is often natural for many of us to be over-protective of partners and children, in fear that the same thing will happen again. The Moon represents the past, mother and baby in us all. Our experience of mothering, care and protection and it rules our immediate and automatic responses.

Seduced by Older Woman

Sean Connery has his natal Moon in the 8th house and I always thought that he came across as a gentlemen. However, as I delved into his profile, it transpired that if a woman was a bitch, he felt it was justified to slap her. Tell us how you really feel Connery! When Sean was 14 years old he was seduced (8th) by an older woman and lost his virginity. His early experience of women would be coloured by the fundamental issues of birth, death and sex (8th). Maybe he felt manipulated into sex at such a young age. The eighth house also rules intimate relationships. A lot of women still find him sexy in his older years and maybe he has a seductive quality. Sean has Saturn (age) conjunct his ascendant in Capricorn (age) and trine the Sun (vitality and life force). The trine is an easy aspect in astrology and many agree that he has aged particularly well. I guess he is in his Saturn element.

Family Secret

Orlando Bloom also has his Moon in the 8th house and during his childhood his mother told him that his father was his mother’s husband. His Dad died when Orlando was 4 years old (Sun in 12th house square Pluto in 7th house) and it took 9 years later, until his mother revealed to him that he was in fact, his father. You can imagine how he might have felt over this long kept family (Moon) secret (8th) and one that his mother (Moon) was silent about for years. I don’t understand the reasons behind it, but I would be a tad mistrustful of women. The loss of the father, so early in life would have also been traumatic to both child and mother and a major crisis in her life.

Mother Abused

Bill Clinton has his Moon in the 8th house and he too lost his father, but it happened 3 months before he was born. His natal Moon is also square Pluto (natural ruler of 8th house). His step-father was a gambler and a drinker and regularly abused (Pluto) his mother (Moon) and half brother, to the point that he regularly intervened with the threat of violence in order to protect them. He has also been accused of rape by various women but there has been no evidence for this. However, his other secret sexual affairs have been well documented by the press.
Death itself does indeed come under this house, but there are many kinds of death, and most of them are not physical; and every death is followed inevitably by a rebirth because it is only form, and not life which inherits the form, that dies. As a watery house, the eight deals primarily with emotional exchange. As opposite from the second house, that which has physical value and which constitutive stability of feeling. It is the eighth sign, Scorpio, that we may find a clue to significance of this house in matters of sex, emotional crisis, and the death and rebirth of the instincts as purified desire. By Liz Greene

Pluto in 5th House

With Pluto in the 5th house there is a powerful urge to express creativity, and art may be pursued with obsessive passion. Artwork and hobbies are expressed with drama, intensity and even heaviness. Creative gifts may be out of the ordinary and have a profound effect on others. Those with Pluto here have strong creative forces in whatever they do, and they want to do it to the fullest, they get totally, passionately and even obsessively involved.

However, these people may have to confront psychological blocks and  re-examine early childhood and see what type of encouragement was received and how others responded to their taste for drama. The labour of creating something can be a long and painful process until they face whatever complexes are rooted in the 5th house. Still, their desire for personal recognition is compelling, and if they do not achieve personal success they may try to force their children  to fulfill their desires for them.

Pluto in the 5th house is over-protective of loved ones and children, and they share a deep and loving bond. Sometimes there is over-possessiveness and smothering. The birth of a child can completely transform their life. The eldest child may undergo a crisis of some kind, or their personality is strongly Plutonian. Astrologer Sue Tompkins says:
A deep desire to have children can be indicated with this placement, which can also sometimes be indicative of miscarriages and abortions if other factors in the horoscope concur. Occasionally it equates with putting a child up for adoption.
Love affairs are often consuming and emotionally exhausting and they may become obsessed, fixated and jealous of a lover. Pluto in the 5th house is popularly known amongst astrologers as the “fatal attraction” position, and it sometimes indicates a secret or hidden affair. The individual may fall in love with someone who is passionate, jealous, domineering or emotionally turbulent. Pluto here is not likely to take the affairs of the heart lightly and each romance is seen as some kind of fate. Pluto in the 5th house may also indicate a hidden need for love, flattery and attention.
They can act as natural leaders and pioneers, and objectively understand how to guide individual development and actualization of those they touch. The other day I was watching several children play. They were all four and five year olds. At one point an eighteen month old baby wandered by these children. This little girl had a tremendously powerful aura. All the four and five year old children stopped what they were doing and began to follow her. Mesmerized they simply fell in line with this child. After watching this scene I asked the mother for her birth data. As it turned out, the little one had Pluto conjunct Saturn in the 5th house. This intrinsic leadership capacity created an almost Pied-Piper - like effect upon the four and five year olds even though she was only eighteen months old. Jeff Green
There is often a burning desire within to create and sexuality can be intense. A powerful sense of self-importance may be present, alternatively they hide their creativity and sense of specialness. Sometimes art is created in reaction to a trauma, conflict and upheaval. The creative self-expression is used as a healing tool.
