Saturn: Our Inner Government

We are all more than critical at the government these days with Saturn moving through Virgo. The British Government had it's fair share of criticism over "petty cash" and spending expenses on unnecessary things like pool cleaning, replacement flooring, cleaners etc. Using (wasting) tax payers money, and at this critical point in time we lost trust in the government completely (Pluto in Capricorn). Future consequences of this may show up in later critical transits approaching. In astrology Saturn rules the Government, system, and the rules put into place in society. Saurn also rules an individual's "inner Government". Astrologers commonly call this inner authority. So, how well does our own inner Goverment measure up, when the finger is pointed closer to home?

Saturn gets bad press in astrology, and we blame Saturn for denying us a pay rise, or love life, and our self-assertion and confidence. Saturn is the boss who controls the company, and docks our pay even if we are only 5 minutes late for work, and he won't listen to our feeble excuses because he has heard it all before. We need Saturn at times to curb our excesses or to keep the personality in check, and maintain the highest social conduct in any area of life. Where Saturn is placed in the natal chart is where his central office is situated and where the uppermost strict rules and regulations need to be applied.

When the government fails the rest of the chart can act on it's own accord. Saturn rules the boundary of the personality. A poor government burdens the rest of society (planets in your chart). Imagine schools, work, or  'society' without some form of structure and government, we would run amok at some point. We need a reality check at times, or we can expand too far too fast. Most Saturnian people do not like to be made a fool, it's cringeworthy and destroys all respect. He tries to maintain that you perform at your best and when you fall out of line, there has to be consequences. Imagine a world without consequences we would do what we wanted to do. In each natal chart Saturn has the job of being in charge of the sign and house he is placed. In this part of the chart he has to wear his best business suit, cooperation style. Imagine the government turning up to work in tracksuits, they would be more "approachable" to the common man, but how seriously would they be taken. Thinking about business mentality is good way to integrate Saturn in sign and house. As long as you don't take it too far, too much control and organisation does stifle other parts of the personality.

It takes a lot of responsibility to maintain his office, Saturn has rules to abide to. We all have a different style of government and he is harder on some planets than on others. With hard aspects in the chart he is applying a sterner set of rules and restrictions. The planets in trine to Saturn have an inherent attitude of ease towards the inner government, they are on good terms. Wherever our own inner government is placed is where we avoid change, progress, and new concepts. It's why Saturn and Uranus in mythology have a big showdown. There has always been an opposition to one another with change and revolution (Uranus) and Saturn's authority and time tested wisdom. Saturn maintains law and order against the chaos that Uranus threatens. Saturn is fearful and anxious when anyone tries to push any revolutionary change upon him. He is very resistant to anything that threatens security.

As we move around the zodiac we can see how our inner Government operates and where he lays the law, controls and maintains. In Aries or the 1st house he governs self-image, and how he projects himself to the world. In Taurus and the 2nd house he governs economics, resources and our own inner self-worth, and focuses upon building upon our talents and abilities to maintain our resources. Saturn in Gemini or in the 3rd house deals with education, communications, transport. Saturn in Cancer or in the 4th house deals with housing, and family affairs. Saturn in Leo or in the 5th house deals with pleasure and entertainment, creativity and children. Saturn in Virgo or in the 6th house deals with the "working classes" public health and service. Saturn in Libra or in the 7th house deals with our relations, affairs, public, and open enemies. Saturn in Scorpio or in the 8th house is concerned with shared finances, and he is an authority on any crisis situation. Saturn in Sagittarius or in the 9th house is the law and authority on religion or publishing, long distance travel, what is right and wrong. Saturn in Capricorn or in the 10th house is "home sweet home" he is the head of state. Saturn in Aquarius in the 11th house is focused on parliament, managing groups, people, humanity. Saturn in Pisces or the 12th house governs monasteries, hospitals, prisons, society. Saturn in the 12th is at his most introspective. With Saturn in the natal chart the goverment is most concerned with that part of the chart he is active. Some individuals hate to feel controlled by the enviroment or in any area of life and there is a full kick against the system.

The Astrological Trial of Scott Peterson

I thought I would take a different approach to looking at Scott Peterson's chart. Astrology is a useful and insightful character assessment tool. However, it could never be used in court, but still I want to look at astrology from this angle. I will use the case here of a Scott Peterson, he has been found guilty of killing his wife and unborn son. He had reported his wife missing, and told police he had just returned from a fishing trip. Scott had taken a $250, 000 life insurance out on his wife. He was the prime suspect but police could not arrest him because of lack of evidence. Four months after her disappearance his wife's body and that of her unborn son washed up on the shore.

Lets begin the astrological trial of Scott Peterson:Day 1

Prosecution: Here we have a man with Sun in Scorpio, a clear description of a someone who seeks power. It's evident he has hidden motives.

Defence: Objection, this is Sun sign astrology, and does not prove anything. If we prosecute on the Sun alone you may as well drag 1/12th of the population into this courtroom, and say they are all guilty of murder.

Prosecution: I haven't finished with my case on the Sun, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Pluto (sun sign ruler) is in Libra in the 10th house in his natal chart. Mr Peterson was born to a generation of people who are working through relationships and transforming them. This can also mean power struggles in a relationship where one dominates over the other. According to this man's chart he is ruthless (Pluto) in achieving his goals (10th) a power seeking individual. This is not a subservient man this is clear, he wants a position of power.

Defence: When did ambition ever kill anyone, because a man wants to be a power figure in his career does not make him a murderer. Pluto in the 10th house can show how Scott is being persecuted (Pluto) by the system (10th). His reputation is being destroyed. Does this not prove this case point, he is here in this courtroom being accused by authorities. It is other people who are using their power against him, and trying to convict a him for a murder he did not commit. This man loved his wife.

Prosecution: This man loved power, and LOTS of money. Take a look at his Jupiter in Capricorn on the cusp of 2nd house (money) square Pluto in Libra in the 10th house. A cardinal t-square that shows us he is actively ambitious, and his goal (10th) is to make money. I am bringing in an astrological expert to confirm these concepts. This is James Braha, he is the author of  "How to be a Great Astrologer", and he is considered to be an expert on the planetary aspects. James, you train students and teach them the art of astrology, and you have many years of experience behind you, with a strong background in astrological analysis. What are your thoughts on Jupiter square Pluto?

James Braha: He may be intense and dogmatic in his ideas of right and wrong. His ego may be big and he may be lacking in humility and self-reflection.

Defence: Objection, this is totally misleading, and an attack on my clients character. Is he again not being judged here. Aspects can be projected. The prosecution are the ones who have their own powerful ideas of what is right and wrong and accusing this man without any real proof.

Judge: The Prosecution, may continue interviewing their expert.

Prosecution: Thank you, now James what are your thoughts on Jupiter-Pluto. Please carry on with your analysis.

James Braha: They are unwilling to consider differing viewpoints. Lenny Bruce   had the exact same configuration.

Prosecution: Along with George Calin ,  good point, these people do seem to be dogmatic.

Defence: Objection, we could all pick examples where an aspect has been used less positively. Christopher Reeves and Jane Fonda both have this aspect. Jane wanted positive change in society, and Christopher reeves promoted research after his tragic accident. This aspect shows they have powerful beliefs. It does not mean they are all judgemental. The opposite may be true and they fight against a judgemental society.

Prosecution: Carry on James

James Braha: This person will experience tremendous ups and downs in his luck and money. He is on a lifelong quest to win the grandest financial prize society offers. He Believes in himself wholeheartedly, and is likely to obtain extreme wealth at some point.

Prosecution: Yes, if we look at millionaires charts or individual's were large amounts of money pass through their hands, we often see Jupiter in connection to Pluto.

Defence: The prosecution have twisted these astrological symbols to their own ends. First, Pluto is a power seeking planet by itself, and will describe the elements in life that we are all obsessed with. Pluto alone rules death, decay, crime and the underworld. With any position of Pluto we can say the person could be a right bastard. Our client does not have Pluto in the 2nd house, but if he did, I am sure the prosecution would say he was a greedy self serving bastard, and that he was only using people for their resources, and he would kill or harm (Pluto) for money (2nd). Or, Pluto in the 4th house would make him an "emotional manipulator" who killed his family. Pluto in the 5th house shows that he has an egotistical and ruthless personality, and since the 5th house rules creativity and children this man therefore destroyed and murdered his own child. I could go on, but I have proved my point.

I am stating how astrological symbols can be twisted to suit the case. Our client is indeed an ambitious man, he graduated from high school and was named a golf star twice by MVP. He is a hardworking, serious and responsible. When he met Laci, and fell in love, they both joined resources and manged a business together, and this is what is signified by Pluto in Libra in the 10th house, a business partnership, that was profitable. The couple sold the business in 2000. The Jupiter-Pluto square was indeed ambitious, but he "shared" a business with his wife, and he had enough motivation to start his own business. Large amounts of money was indeed handled through his business enterprise.

Prosecution: Defence, you have painted a picture here of a respectable hard working guy. If we probe further into his "business"  we see that Jupiter in Capricorn is in fall and wealth can easily be lost, and his business plan of killing his wife and pocketing the money has FAILED big time, and he now stands here charged of murder.

Defence: This is an outrageous claim, Jupiter in Capricorn can have a high upstanding in the community, and this actually makes him overcautious in taking risks, and wouldn't killing his wife be a BIG risk.

Prosecution: Yes, but your missing another vital factor in his character, the Sun in Scorpio has two ruling planets, and the traditional ruler of Scorpio is Mars. This man wants to win, and considering his Scorpio personality he will use underhand tactics. Mars is conjunct Uranus in Libra in the 11th house. A rebellious and self-willed character, Mr Peterson can be unpredictable. He refuses to abide by societies rules (social sign & house), and will do things his own way. Before you continue painting this man as a law abiding citizen, and hard working member of the community, take this into account when examining his chart.

Defence: Oh, so now he is unpredictable! As was stated earlier in the case, he is competitive and enjoyed golf and team sports, Mars in Libra in the 11th house would describe his other sporting activities. Lets bring astrologer Sue Tompkins in at this point, she has had 30 years experience in astrology; Sue how would you describe Mars-Uranus in the 11th?

Sue Tompkins: It more commonly describes someone who pushes reform and progress. The person can thrive on excitement. Highly original, an extremely useful contact to have in any situation which requires decisive and immediate action. And Mars-Uranus is not merely decisive but resourceful too. A good combination for fighting on behalf of humanitarian issues.

Prosecution: Sounds delighful, but this is not the only expression of this aspect, our friend James Braha would say Scott Peterson hates to be under pressure, he is learning discipline, responsibility, and consistancy. He may have an explosive temper. He is not the type that should marry early. He is strong willed, direct and blunt. Your thoughts Sue, would you back up these claims?

Sue Tompkins: Yes a highly strung nervous system. His physical energy comes in fits and starts.

Prosecution: What about that temper?

Sue Tompkins: He would like a fast paced lifestyle and thrives on excitement and danger. An unpredictable temper.

Prosecution: Challenging authorities and believing he could get away with murder, would be risky and dangerous.

Defence: Mars-Uranus in itself is not enough motive to kill his wife. Just because he gets bored easily. This is a laughable excuse. He used his energy for sports, and his business interests. Original and innovative in his relations to other people. Most of society has Mars in some difficult aspect, are they all killers?

Pluto in Libra in the 2nd House

The Pluto in Libra generation are dealing with relationships at their core and how to relate equally. Pluto placed in the sign of partnership is  purging and detoxifying our relationships. Wherever Pluto is placed in the natal chart there is a tremendous amount of emotional investment. And when those Libra scales are tipped too far one way, Pluto will pull the proverbial rug from under our feet and enforce that we re-balance our affairs. The previous generation - Pluto in Virgo, focused on duty, work, health and sorting out their lives using critical analysis. Psychological self-analysis, and practical techniques at this time were POWERFULLY developed. As Pluto entered Libra it was time to RELATE.

Key points for Pluto in Libra in the 2nd house concerning relationships -

Stability and material sustenance can be blocked in relationships. Pluto in Libra in the 2nd house may be focused on merging finances, but financial security may be difficult to achieve in partnership. It is a well known fact that the leading cause of eruptions in relationships is related to money. If one partner earns considerably more in a partnership it creates an unbalanced situation, because the person that holds the chequebook, also holds the financial power. The rug can be pulled out from under the partner's feet. Balancing finances in relationships is essential, and  Pluto in the 2nd house must not seek sustenance through other people.

Pluto in the 2nd house may be struggling to survive under a pile of debt, and forced to declare bankruptcy, or left to survive on a small income. This kind of situation may create resentment and jealousy towards people who do have money and live a wealthy lifestyle. Pluto rules criminals and the underworld and an individual forced to survive on nothing may resort to crime and steal possessions from others. These are rare cases when an individual is filled with hate, greed and materialism and money equals power. Pluto in the 2nd house can indicate a transformation of finances, and we may have a rags to riches story. In either case Pluto goes to extreme.

Pluto in Libra in the 2nd house may relate to a possessive partner, someone who possesses deep feelings of insecurity. The threat of losing a partner and his/her resources leads to all LOSS of SECURITY. Pluto in this house position may be controlled by a jealous and possessive partner and his/her affections are payed for. EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT is a key theme in this type relationship. When someone thinks of you as a valuable possession, this can convey the message hat you are WORTHY (2nd) of their affections, and this makes you feel valued/owned and controlled and can elicit many different responses.  However, this type of extreme reaction occurs because of the terror (Pluto) this loss of security brings. Possessiveness claims ownership of another and the manipulation behind it can eventually destroy the partnership. However, the issue of jealousy or possessiveness belongs to both people, and the real issue is self-sufficiency and resourcefulness.

A partner can be a seen as a symbol of wealth and material status, and a boost to self-worth. You gain FINANCIAL POWER by being with a partner who is wealthy. This situation can lead to power struggles and is limiting you from investing in your own talents, skills and resources. And you need to be vigilant about others enforcing their OWN values on you. Furthermore, underground resentments have a way of surfacing and will force you both to seek balance.

During Pluto's transit of Libra; the divorce rate went up, and the institution of marriage died. Many relationships erupted or ended completely at this time. Divorce was made simple and the face of marriage (Libra) transformed (Pluto). Those born during this time are now rebuilding relationships and finding new ways to relate to others. Pluto in this position is learning how to be self-reliant (2nd) in relationships (Libra). And the value that is attached to relationships is undergoing an extreme makeover. You might need to examine your generation's social conditioning and consumerism addictions. Accruing money and possessions may be your way to compensate for lack of love or security in childhood and to prove your worth to the world. If your fiances are blocked and you are achieving no growth in this area, this may reflect feelings of low self-worth and you need to find self-empowerment in regards to your financial status.

Venus and Values

One key word associated with Venus is value. You give value to the sign, house and aspects to Venus. In traditional astrology Venus is a benefic and brings much pleasure, especially if she is well placed or aspected beautifully. If Venus struggles in the natal chart, you may struggle to find value, pleasure or self-worth. Astrology confirms that we are born with a particular set of values inherent, and perhaps early childhood will have played a role in our value system. Whether we realize it or not, we do put a higher price tag on certain attributes and personality traits in lovers. The closer something is to what we value the more we will experience love, pleasure, enjoyment, and happiness.

One theory for falling in love is similarity (Libra). Similarity often forms the basis of our choices in love (Libra is an Air sign). The Taurean link to love determines stability, and the permanent worth we attach to our relationships. By choosing a partner we are viewing something inside that we like, and maybe something that we need to develop or recognize.

Jennifer Jones: Venus in Aries 8th square Pluto

1940's actress Jennifer Jones had Venus in Aries conjunct Mars in the 8th house, Venus and Mars are square to a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in Cancer in the 11th house. Venus is also in trine to Neptune. Jennifer's first relationship was with Robert, he was also involved in acting school, so they had a shared passion for acting (Neptune) and this served to enhance the relationship, because they both shared a common dream.

Jennifer's acting talent was spotted by independent producer David Selznick. However, she did become his obsession and fascination, and this can be seen through her Venus-Pluto aspect, she can be magnetically attractive. And Jennifer also had an attraction (Venus) to powerful men (Pluto). Davide Selznick took control of the reins regarding Jen's career.  After one year sof marriage to her first love Robert, and she had two sons with him. Yet, as fame grew the marriage diminished and showed strain (perhaps conflicting feelings too) and so they divorced.

Jennifer's relationship with David Selznick intensified over the years, and eventually they admitted their feelings for one another and decided to marry. They both wanted to start a family, and tried for their first child, but she sadly miscarried. Fortunately, they had a successful second pregnancy and they had a baby daughter together. Unfortunately, tragedy struck 14 years later when David died and Jennifer fell into deep depression. Jen's Daughter became emotionally and mentally unstable after her fathers death and committed suicide by jumping off a 22 storey building.

Years later, Jennifer met multi-millionaire Simon Norten. He was an art collector, and this is portrayed by her natal Venus square to the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction. It symbolizes money and wealth (Jupiter-Pluto) coming through partnership (Venus). After this whirlwind romance she married her millionaire, however, her husband's health deteriorated and he died. Jennifer was widowed for the second time. It has been reported she attempted suicide, but she has denied these claims. For many years she went to see a personal analyst, and was working through her earlier traumas. When she re-surfaced and felt she could carry on with life, she donated a large sum of money to charity (Jupiter-Pluto) benefiting many people (11th). Jennifer set up a foundation for Mental Health and Education. Jennifer continued to focus on her charities and the community (11th), and was honoured in a rare appearance when she collected an award for lifetime achievement. Venus in the 8th house square to Pluto had it's fair share of fated and traumatic events, and ones that profoundly changed her values. Jennifer used her inherited wealth to benefit the community. A transformation of values and new ways to relate to others.

Mia Farrow: Venus in Aries 12th opposed Neptune

American actress Mia Farrow's   has Venus in Aries in the 12th house involved in a grand square with Moon, Neptune, and Saturn. Before Mia turned 20 she was involved in a relationship with Frank Sinatra, a man nearly 30 years her senior (Venus-Saturn). The relationship didn't last long and ended in divorce. Mia met another man, and fell in love. They married under the climate of military involvement in Asia (Venus in Aries). They adopted a war orphan together, symbolized by Venus in Aries in the 12th house opposed Neptune in 6th. They both adopted a second child who was  abandoned on the street. Her Venus-Moon-Saturn-Neptune configuration, rescued (Neptune) children in poverty who were born to less fortunate circumstances (Saturn). It is not a bad way to use a grand square. The couple had six children by the time the relationship ended.

However, Mia was not dismayed in love, and she had a relationship with Woody Allen. He had difficulty with relating to her children. They both adopted a child together and he slowly grew into parenting. In all, they had a 12 year relationship together. The relationship had an explosive end when Mia, according to the press reports, found pornographic photo's of her adopted daughter in Allen's apartment. By 1997 she had 14 children, 10 were adopted. Sadly she has also lost two children to death. Astrologers regard grand squares as the most difficult configurations to handle. And I do believe Mia has lived a life full of excitement, but  filled with stress and trauma. Mia must have felt the strain over the years of having many children and failed marriages. For Mia, Venus in the 12th house is difficult to access and is usually suppressed. She compensated for this by giving all her love and value (Venus) to those in society (12th) who felt unloved (Venus-Saturn).

Venus Aphrodisiac

If you meet someone and they display qualities that you value it will be a powerful aphrodisiac for Venus and you will be attracted to them. For example, Venus in Sagittarius values freedom, travel, knowledge, optimism, growth and expansion. A traditional reading for Venus in Sagittarius or in the 9th house, says that you may have a relationship with somebody from another culture. Venus in Sagittarius or in the 9th house might find foreign accents sexy or they may love to travel with a partner and explore a different culture. In this instance, two cultures can be brought together in harmony and values are expanded. Venus in Sagittarius may need to travel far and wide for love. Or they fall in love with a teacher, or somebody who is spiritual or religious.

Scientist Marie Curie: Venus in Scorpio square Jupiter in Aquarius

Scientist Marie Curie had Venus in Scorpio square Jupiter in Aquarius, she met her husband abroad. And he had the same interest and knowledge in science (Jupiter in Aquarius). They worked together for 11 years,  until a tragic accident took his life. Marie has Sun (male) opposed to Pluto (death). They both had shared interests and had the same intellectual values. One striking story that I have come across involves a foreign relationship. Bernard Boursicot born in France, has Venus conjunct Jupiter in Virgo in the 7th house of relationships, and his great love affair was made into a play. Bernard had a love affair between him and his Chinese mistress Shi Peipu. They parented a child together and then the truth came out that Shi Peipu was not a woman!

Antonio Banderas: Venus in Virgo conjunct Pluto and trine Jupiter in Sagittarius

Antonio Banderas has Venus in Virgo conjunct Pluto in the 6th house trine Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 10th house. Antonia left his first wife behind at home while he ran off and fell in love with America. His wife didn't share his love of America, and preferred her own country. Antonia needed to expand his horizons and enter the acting world. However, turbulence and jealous feelings were evoked (Venus-Pluto) when he met Melanie Griffith through his work (Venus in 6th) and they both had a passionate love affair. They realized after talking to one another for hours that they had fallen in love. Melanie had recently split from her husband and she uprooted the children to be with Antonio. Meanwhile Ann (wife) traveled to America to confront her husband. Antonia's jealous and abandoned lover was fuming and escalated the situation back home to the press. Griffiths was called a whore and a home wrecker. The tangled webs some Venus-Pluto people weave. It has been reported Melanie possesses a jealous streak, too, so there is the same pattern. Not surprising considering her Antonia tattoo, advertising her relationship.

Adventure in Love

Venus in Sagittarius or in the 9th house, and in aspect to Jupiter cannot stand to be constrained in love. If a relationship is possessive or limiting they can begin to get restless, and this is a causal factor in separation. Personal freedom is a must and they need to explore, and travel physically or mentally. Perhaps attending University, or college courses. The Venus 9th archetype needs to balance relationships with a sense of adventure, intellectual and philosophical. Shared humour is good, and an optimistic outlook. If you travel and have an adventure with your partner and "share" their enthusiasm for life it can only enrich the relationship.

The Neverending Story: Saturn-Neptune

Dreams at the Bottom of a Wishing Well

Neptune's ocean contains lost fragments of collective dreams, forgotten hopes and aspirations. In the fim "The Goonies" the Saturn-Neptune archetype is shown here by the representation of other people's dreams and hopes waiting to be lived out and realized, and until that time arrives they lay at the bottom of a  Wishing Well. Saturn-Neptune lead us into feelings of hopelessness, despair, and frustration. This feeling is often internalized because we feel we are failing and cannot cope with reality. Collective feeling is a term that was originally coined from Carl Jung, he based his life work on exploring the inner realm of the unconscious, it's archetypes and motifs. Saturn-Neptune represents form and formlessness, and symbolises the frustration of human beings trying to realize their dreams, and put them into concrete form.

The Never Ending Story: Fantasia threatened by "The Nothingness"

For me, The Never Ending Story resonates to the world of  Saturn - Neptune. The movie is about a young boy called Sebastian, and he enters into the story of Fantasia - a beautiful and magical place full of imaginary characters. Sadly, the world of Fantasia is slowly being threatened by the NOTHINGNESS. Human beings have stopped believing in their hopes and dreams, and the dark cloud of nothingness continues to consume Fantasia. Atreus is a young boy in Fantasia with a fearless spirit and he offers to help save Fantasia from being discarded by reality. On the first leg of his journey he has to go through the swamp of sadness, and it is extremely difficult to navigate his way through. Slowly his horse is overtaken by the feeling of hopelessness and he cannot fight his way back out.

Fantasia has no boundaries and mirrors the world of imagination. Depression, separation and death (Saturn' reality) are slowly eating away at Neptune's dreams. To save this world all Sebastion needs to do is believe in his dreams and imagination. So, the moral of this tale is to keep believing in your dreams.

Family Astrology Books

Parenting before conception (click to view) discusses the spiritual aspects of raising a child, and is primarily geared towards the spiritually aware parent. The topics include: Cultivating your child's whole self from the beginning, Astrology and the influence of the Universe on our newly growing seeds (babies). There is also an interesting chapter on the family inheritance. The second book is much more geared to astrology: Nurturing your child (click to view).

Venus Exalted in Pisces

I won't give your ears a rest just yet. Here we have Celine Dion with Venus in Pisces trine Neptune. Her love goes on and on and on. Pisces has no boundaries and there are no limits in love. You can't help (Piscean phrase) who you fall in love with. The Titanic love story proved this. Celine Dion fell in love with a much older man (Sun-Saturn = male/time and experience) but he fell ill later in life. And true love and empathy can help heal these wounds. There was also some difficulty with getting pregnant (Neptune in 5th and longing for a child) due to her husbands age and illness (Sun-Saturn) luckily she had treatment and now has a child and this shows how love (Venus in Pisces) can conquer all obstacles (Sun-Saturn). I am happy for Celine, and love truly is boundless in her case. With Venus in Pisces you can fall in love with everyone and anyone.

Sun Exalted in Aries

The term exaltation is part of traditional astrology in classifying planets. Exaltation is a sign placement said to be more favourable. The Sun in Leo has dignity in it's own sign, and Sun in Aries is a more potent force for self expression. Vocal gymnast Mariah Carey was born with the Sun in Aries, and her journey towards individuation and discovering her identity has been a rocky road. First she had to escape her tyrant and controlling husband (Capricorn...sorry) and she compromised (Libra) her musical style in the beginning of her career, and in order to create her own vision and innovative talents she needed to break from the past (Cancer).  I can't emphasise enough the importance of self expression concerning the Sun. Mariah Carey reached this stage in her journey with the incredibly successful Emancipation of Mi Mi. I devised this system explaining the challenges we face individuating. By using the cardinal grand square dilemma and placing some of her struggles in storyboard form representing the aim of Sun in Aries. I have wondered if we all face a similar dilemma individuating, and how this plays out concerning the other modes (mutable and fixed). It's just a theory.

Astrology Resources on the Family

I have some books concerning this topic at home, not a lot of astrology covers parental astrology and family problems/complexes.

A series of books by Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas are highly recommended. The Luminaries is a lecture that explores both Luna and solar influences, and how these symbols play an important role in describing the parental role in the family, but are also vital symbols in the psyche. Family case histories are explored and there is plenty of helpful information to help you with delineating a natal chart. The Development of the Personality looks at the Stages of Childhood and the perception the child holds of the parents. There is a great chapter on the Parental Marriage in the horoscope and how astrological symbols combine to make up the duel image of our parents. Liz Greene offers an interesting prespective on element dominance in the natal chart, and how this can be evident in the parental marriage. For example, a chart with a dominance of Air and a lack of water, can show an opinionated or rational father (air) and poor neglected emotional mother (water).

Relating is another book covering themes of relationships and has a section called Honor thy Father and Mother - With Reservations. Liz Greene says, "Mother is the earth in matter, feeling, the cycle of birth and death, the all giving and all destroying, the instinctual life of the body and of the earth itself. Father is heaven, spirit, fire, will, meaning, purpose and purposeful development, order, structure and law". I also like her following thoughts... "We cannot attach moral blame to any parent, even if his or her neglect, rejection, harshness, absence, over possessiveness or lack of understanding appears to have engendered psychological conflict. Such factors certainly leave their mark, and much brutality often occurs in the name of love. But whatever is exhibited by the parent, something in the child meets half way, so to speak, accepts it and absorbs it".

Liz believes the child evokes an experience from the parent. I have always found her an insightful writer and she is one of my favourite authors. However, Liz Greene is not for the psychologically shy. The I.C-M.C debate is also touched upon in this book, and she calls this axis the inheritage which we are bound to. The sign on the M.C, shows how the individual would like to be seen by the mother, or how he sees her. His social values ultimately derive from her, as well as those concerning relationships with others. The sign on the midheaven is also a statement and lesson to be learned through the mother, the obstacle which must be made conscious. The child must develop the M.C sign for both of them. The I.C is more submerged, the source of ones roots and the sap of the tree which eventually flowers into the tree of the M.C. For an more in depth look you are best reading the book.

I also have the book by Zip Dobyns on Healing Mother-Daughter relationships. The author teaches the reader to use the astrological alphabet and apply it to the relationship with the mother. For example, Number 10 would relate to a mother who is Capricorn or Saturnian, this because Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Saturn. This type of mother relationship has an influence of the father archetype and of laying the law, responsibility, a blend of conditional and unconditional love. Mother as authority, professional, hardworking and dutiful. Or the child had to take on these responsibilities. The family may have had to live in poverty and the child was expected to work from a young age. This is the type of information that can be gleaned from the book. There is a chapter on parental aspects. Below is a sample reading form the book on Moon-Chiron.

"The questing motif is mixed with maternal urges in these cases. On the positive side, Mother could be bright, a visionary, and motivated to seek a higher meaning in life. She might be more idealistic, spiritual or caught up with spiritual activities. She is likely to have high standards for herself as a mother. She may embody a restless, seeking, searching urge, helping her child see life as an adventure, and that the quest of truth is paramount. The child may idealize mum, seeing her as someone who expresses her best and her brightest in many ways. On the negative side, either individual may expect more than is humanly possible from the other and feel disappointed (wounded) when let down. The child may feel that the mother is caught up with educational, spiritual, humanitarian, or cultural or other pursuits and does not pay enough attention to family matters. When the child and mother seek the best together, the results can be quite positive. They may join forces in regard to spiritual, educational, or idealistic pursuits. A shared faith and confidence in a higher power can provide energy and motivation to make lives and the world a bit better".

We are Family: Art Buchwald

Art Buchwald is an American humorist, and one who views life through a radically different lens. His early childhood lacked stability and security. Art's mother was taken into psychiatric care for paranoid delusions when he was three months old. His father put him into an orphanage when his business failed, but the family were later reunited. However, these difficult times would forever stay with Art. The Moon in the natal chart rules the mother and it doesn't look particularly stressed, it conjuncts Venus in Sagittarius. The the conjunction aspects nothing else in his natal chart. The conjunction is closed off from other aspects of his personality and this may be telling for the little nurturing contact he had with his mother. The Moon in Sagittarius would represent a good sense of humour/upbeat personality. Saturn in Scorpio conjunct M.C (parental house) shows a suspicious and paranoid view of the world. Jupiter is locked away in the 12th house in Capricorn and forms an opposition to Pluto in the 6th house. Art is described as having a dark sense of humour. Jupiter is in fall in Capricorn and the dark opposition to Pluto may be an indication of his suicidal feelings.

Buchwald has been called a troubled man behind a clown's mask. He told acquaintances that his mother had died and he would never visit her in hospital. It is really sad because he has loving feelings somewhere for his mother (Moon-Venus). Saturn in Scorpio is a mistrustful and deeply suspicious planet, it conjuncts the M.C and squares Neptune in the 7th house. Indicating his deep paranoia and depression is inherited from his family and most evidently his mother. Mars, the planet of assertiveness, goals and aggression is in detriment in Libra and it is hidden in the 8th house. The 8th house is deeply rooted in family complexes. Mars is t-squared by Jupiter and Pluto involving all the water houses and this is massive marker for depression and buried rage.

We are Family: Joan Fontaine

Joan Fontaine is an American actress who was born in Japan when her father was stationed in Tokyo. Her dad, an English professor, left her mom for the Japanese maid, her mom left Japan in 1919, when she was still a baby. Joan had a difficult childhood when her mom remarried, she viewed her family as critical and her sister, Olivia, as favored. At 15, she returned to Tokyo to live with her dad and his Japanese wife for two years. Fontaine and her sister, Olivia de Havilland, both became noted actresses. Actually shy, with a high IQ, she was considered difficult and was voted the least cooperative actress in 1943.

The Astrology

The parental axis (4th and 10th) in the horoscope reveals significant oppositions and is one significator for parents that are OPPOSED to one another and may have divorced. The child often feels torn between them both, and this is depicted by tense oppositions across the parent's houses. The planet Uranus is in Aquarius in the 4th house opposed Mars and Saturn in the tenth house. This is an extremely tense configuration, and the 10th house in the natal chart symbolises the mother and shows a complicated relationship. Joan's father is shown by Uranus in the 4th house, and his leaving home uprooted the whole family. Uranus represents things that are different at home and usually the father (4th) needing to have plenty of personal freedom (Uranus). In some natal charts this placement can also indicate a step-father, and a family not necessarily related by blood

Joan's Mars in Leo in the 10th symbolizes strength and ambition, particularly in a creative fashion, and there is need for the limelight and public recognition (Leo). Joan would have felt she had to compete with her mother and this extended into her career, and she was seen as a difficult actress to get along with. Saturn conjunct Neptune in the 10th house shows frustration (Saturn) and disappointment (Neptune) in her mother. Joan's mother was a proud woman and her dignity was shot when her hubby ran off with the maid. The sign of Leo is all about self-discovery and Joan's mother may have felt her own creative ambitions went unfulfilled. The mother could be viewed as a victim of circumstance, she had to sacrifice her own vision, and artistic dreams for the sake of the family. She may have felt resentful towards her ex husband because he had the freedom to walk out. Mother's critical nature (Saturn), repressed creativity (Leo), along with unlived dreams may have created unconscious resentment and bitterness towards her daughter.

Joan's relationship with her sister was not easy, because she was the favourite. The Moon is placed in the 3rd house in Capricorn opposite Pluto, and both sisters held malice towards eachother and never spoke for years. A child with a Moon-Pluto opposition can feel invaded and it also involves another dimension of the mother. There is a sense of betrayal and damaged emotions in this Moon, and resentment towards her sibling who received the attention. Olivia used to rip up Joan's clothes, and this sibling rivalry was seen publicly when collecting an award. Olivia tried to congratulate Joan but she was rejected. The sibling rivalry was a lifelong feud. When the mother died it was reported that Olivia never invited Joan to the memorial service. Joan claims the reports have been twisted and she said the press hoaxed the whole story, but looking at her Moon-Pluto in the 3rd house of siblings, there is no smoke without fire.

Venus in Virgo -The One with the List

One facet of Virgo's personality is their ability to arrange life into order. We order the personality, before stepping into the social sign of Libra. Lately, my wardrobe could do with some compartmentalizing, my clothes are thrown together in unity (Pisces) t-shirts with trousers and fancy clothes buried under a pile. I am dis-organized. Virgo's invented hangers and separate drawers and neat boxes for storage, and they do serve a useful purpose, and I should make use of them.

However, the trouble with "too much" compartmentalizing is that life isn't neatly packaged. And as a basic rule of thumb, DO NOT compartmentalize your lover in this way. Being critical or nit-picky is a passion killer, and you are never going to get a first date if you tick off boxes. I have a "Friends" scene (click to view) that best explains. Accept you partner flaws and all, but not to the extent that Pisces does.

The Anima

The Moon, Venus their signs and aspects describe the female anima, and describes parts of own feminine nature, and also the anima in the women we form relationships with throughout our lives. For example a man's Moon or Venus in aspect to Pluto is often compelled towards a woman who is dark, possessive, and seductress like. A female with these aspects can have these elements inside of  her. Angelina Jolie (Moon-Pluto) in the animated film Beowulf, she reminds me of this figure - and is seductive, powerful and sexy. Few men could resist her deadly charms, especially those with the Pluto archetype in their natal charts. For more on the astrology on Moon-Pluto read here.

Everything is Energy

This video is interesting, and on an astrology level I don't disagree, as we do have energy. However, we know different people vibrate different energies. We have a unique pattern set at birth, and we have to work within the confines of that pattern. This is an interesting topic, and I would need a longer time span to really gather all my thoughts on this. There are so many things to consider when viewing energy patterns, vibrations, and the law of attraction. I kind of fall in the middle of these theories, because of pre-set patterns in the birth chart, and the law of attraction only exists in what your chart has the ability to manifest.

Dissociative States

Dissociative states occur when a person is under great stress from external influences, other people’s cruelty or deeply felt previous internal conflicts with a disturbing immediate situation. The moon (emotion) in Pisces (sensitivity) on the Dragon’s Tail (karma) is a major contribution to the dilemma. This affliction brings dissociation with others, especially to the family. The upbringing is usually very dramatic and the subject learns early in childhood to cope with traumatic sexual or emotional abuse. If the Dragon’s Tail (negative) affects the 4th house (home/family) in the sign of Scorpio (sex) or if there is any hard aspects to the Moon (home) and Pluto (death) drama will occur. Often they are forced to learn to disconnect from their feelings to avoid emotional or physical pain. By adulthood, their emotions are locked behind protective walls and can be accessed as needed. A strong Pluto (power) aspect to Mercury (the mind), and the Moon (emotions) gives the subject a powerful will to dissociate himself from whatever is going on around him so that emotional or physical pain can be avoided. The strength of Pluto, aspects to Mercury and the Moon give this person a form of subconscious (protection) self-hypnotic trance. In extreme cases, therefore, these individuals do experience periods of “missing time,” confusion and disorientation. Sad enough, “The Little Queen” Jon Benett, was murdered at home. The police suspect the parents for good reasons. She was a Leo (fame/stage) and at an early age displayed her gift as an entertainer. The 4th house (home/family members) happens to be in the dramatic sign of Scorpio (death/sex) and clearly indicates where death and drama did enter the life of the subject.

Great Article

I was reading this article from Astrology Expressed - When the World is too much with us: The Twelfth House. And this is excellent information, definitely recommended reading.

Meet the Hackers

Kevin David Mitnick is a computer security consultant and author. He was a world-famous controversial computer hacker in the late 20th century, who was, at the time of his arrest, the most wanted computer criminal in United States history. At the age of twelve Kevin Mitnick used social engineering to bypass the punchcard system used in the Los Angeles bus system. After a friendly bus driver told him where he could buy his own punch, he could ride any bus in the greater LA area using unused transfer slips he found in the trash. Social engineering became his primary method of obtaining information, whether it be user names and passwords, modem phone numbers or any number of other pieces of data.

In high school, he was introduced by "Petronix" to phone phreaking, a method of manipulating telephones, which he often used to evade long distance charges. Mitnick also became handy with amateur radios; using radio equipment, Mitnick reportedly managed to gain unauthorized access to the speaker systems of nearby fast food restaurants. Mitnick gained unauthorized access to his first computer network in 1979, when a friend gave him the phone number for the Ark, the computer system Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) used for developing their RSTS/E operating system software. He broke into DEC's computer network and copied DEC's software, a crime he was charged and convicted for in 1988. He was sentenced to twelve months in prison followed by a three year period of supervised release. Near the end of his supervised release, Mitnick hacked into Pacific Bell voice mail computers. Mitnick fled after a warrant was issued for his arrest, becoming a fugitive for the next two and a half years.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice while a fugitive Mitnick gained unauthorized access to dozens of computer networks. He used cloned cellular phones to hide his location and, among other things, copied valuable proprietary software from some of the country’s largest cellular telephone and computer companies. Mitnick also intercepted and stole computer passwords, altered computer networks, and broke into and read private e-mail. Mitnick was apprehended in February 1995 in North Carolina. When arrested he was found with cloned cellular phones, over one hundred clone cellular phone codes, and multiple pieces of false identification.

Astrology chart

The Sun is in Leo opposite Saturn in Aquarius, when the Sun is opposite Saturn it can show trouble with the Government, and authority, can be viewed, as limiting his self-expression. The opposition in fixed signs is more rigid in expression. According to Carter in his book: Essays on the Foundations of Astrology. "Leo-Aquarian oppositions have produced great men, distinguished for courage and endurance, Leaders (Leo) of men (Aquarius) in difficult circumstances (the opposition). It is a sign of one who will attempt the seemingly impossible. Often the aim is through Scientific research, and always seems to indicate elevated powers". We can further the Aquarian archetype of Science, and add in another astrological key word for Aquarius - and that is an involvement with computers (Uranian). The only way to combat his opposition (Sun-Saturn) is for him to become an authority/expert in his field, and own his Saturn, otherwise he will persistently meet the law of limitation in the outside world. I have a Sun-Saturn opposition and in certain situations it pays to play by the rules and follow social conduct, this does not mean losing all individuality or an innovative mental life.

Kevin's Saturn in Aquarius shows the lone wolf, he is overly concerned with social acceptance. Perhaps in childhood he felt different from others, and the opposition between his Sun (ego) and Saturn (denied) can show an 'inferiority' complex here. Kevin can set himself apart from the rest of the crowd or herd. And "others" can identify him as geeky, intellectual, or someone who appears "different" to them. Saturn could stifle Aquarian energy, and this may contribute to his rebellious behavior. Saturn in Aquarius is a strong placement for a Scientist or someone who is seriously gifted with intuition, and there can be career goals in things of a Uranian nature, like computers. This is doubly true because Kevin's Mercury is in the analytic sign of Virgo in EXACT conjunction to Uranus, and this describes an original, inventive mind, his mental capacity woks at lightening speed. Mercury in aspect to Uranus can depict brilliance, but also difficulty in following the rules of the status qua (a rebellious mind).

Everything Kevin learns is stored away and can be used in practical and useful ways, he can provide a service involving computers, combined with his powerful analytical abilities (Virgo). Mitnik was born at the time of the Uranus-Pluto conjunction, an aspect associated with revolutions in technology and Science. Kevin also has Mercury conjunct Pluto, and he has a probing, intense, obsessive and secretive mind. He can ply information out of others, in a manipulative manner by not revealing his true motives. To summarise, Kevin can get in trouble with authorities (Sun-Saturn) for hacking (Mercury-Uranus) and reading information that was not open to the public (Mercury-Pluto). The conjunction also describes his new career of raising awareness (Uranus) of computer threats (Pluto). The Sun-Saturn opposition forms a t-square to Neptune in Scorpio - and a t-square to Neptune is one indication of deception in a natal chart.

Uranus

Uranus is the co ruler of Aquarius along with Saturn, and this electrifying planet takes us into the higher mind, and gives us a clear perspective and capacity for seeing the future in a blinding flash of clarity. Uranus is a great awakener, who brings visions and revelations. This planet also symbolizes the urge for rebellion and for instigating a new order that reflects a more progressive way of thinking. Uranus seems to personify the need within the psyche to break free of identification with the material reality and to experience the world of archetypal mind.

Uranus has been called the Awakener, and the urge he symbolizes, like all unconscious contents, is projected. It appears to come back to the individual as a sudden event which rips away the fabric of a previous reality, and often in a highly painful way. Uranus has come to be associated with things such as invention, space, science, technology, electricity computing, aviation, exploration and the social sciences. Uranus governs the realm of great upheavals of ideas and ideologies which have so often created disruption and transformation in the structures of society. In times of revolution when Uranus is breaking down an old social order, and a new vision is emerging, often events happen that send shock waves across the nation.

Maintaining this remarkably strong practical link with revolutionary change, modern astrology associates Uranus with radical idealism. Uranus symbolizes the power of the human mind to reach the realm of “universal ideas” and apply them to everyday lives. This is not the realm of the rational mind which belongs with Mercury, but that part of the intuitive mind that is capable of grasping whole concepts in a single blinding flash of insight.

Uranus is concerned with the truth and the kind of realizations that cut through everything. Uranus challenges all that has become stuck, sterile and predictable. It’s message is fiercely anti-establishment and unconventional. Planets touched by Uranus seek excitement, freedom and independence. In early life, strong Uranian contacts in the chart signify that there was probably not too much in the way predictability and anchorage. Instead some kind of sudden disruption, shock or at least some inconsistency is indicated.

Individuals with such contacts seem habitually to recreate disruption in adulthood, rejection, alienation, estrangement and feelings of isolation are major emotional experiences to be associated with this planet. The notion of rejection is the insistence on independence. Uranus is the enemy of the tried and tested path and seeks to break free of things that tie us to the past, or limits us in some way.

Meet the Computer Hackers

Jonathan James

Source Wikipedia: American hacker Jonathan James was the first juvenile incarcerated for cybercrime in the United States. The South Florida native was 15 years old at the time of the first offense and 16 years old on the date of his sentencing. He died on May 18th, 2008. Although details regarding his death were never released, it is notably speculated, including by fellow hacker Adrian Lamo, that James committed suicide by gunshot.

Between August 23, 1999, and October 27, 1999, James committed a series of intrusions into various systems, including those of BellSouth and the Miami-Dade school system. What brought him to the attention of federal authorities, however, was his intrusion into the computers of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, a division of the United States Department of Defense, the primary function of which is to analyze potential threats to the United States of America, both at home and abroad. James later admitted to authorities that he had installed an unauthorized backdoor in a computer server in Dulles, Virginia, which he used to install a sniffer that allowed him to intercept over three thousand messages passing to and from DTRA employees, along with numerous usernames and passwords of other DTRA employees, including at least 10 on official military computers. This intrusion, when detected, caused NASA to shut down its computers for three weeks that July, costing $41,000 to check and fix its systems.

It was later revealed that the precise software obtained was the International Space, Station's source code controlling critical life-sustaining elements. According to NASA, "the software supported the International Space, Station's physical environment, including control of the temperature and humidity within the living space.

Jonathan's Natal Chart

James was born under the sign of Sagittarius, he had Sun, Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus all in the 9th sign of the zodiac. Freedom, space, and big dreams, are some of the things we can associate with this combination. The Sun makes three conjunctions in his chart. Sun conjunct Jupiter is placed in it's own EXPANSIVE sign of Sagittarius, James had excessive optimism and confidence, and he felt "lucky" in life and perhaps God like. James goals were to "better" himself and climb the social ladder. The Sun is conjunct Uranus, this describes a personality that is strong-willed he lives life the way he wants to. Personal freedom is extremely important to him. Sun-Uranus can find it difficult sticking to an ordinary routine. Uranus rules space travel, aviation, astrology and computers, James will be interested in these things. Obviously his main interest is computers, and rules are broken with Uranus, as well as Security systems invaded (Saturn in Scorpio).

Sun is Conjunct Neptune, and from his Sun profile alone - boundaries are not part of his psychological makeup. I think that he can also be to a great extent, an escapist and had difficulty defining his identity . Overall a very expansive conjunction in Sagittarius. Jonathan had three planets in Scorpio - Venus, Saturn and Pluto. Scorpio needs power and control: Saturn in Scorpio often feels his own privacy has to be defended. Here it worked both ways, he invaded security systems and they hunted him down and raided his home taking all his computers away.

Below is an excerpt of his interview with Frontline:

What is it about the computer that makes it become such an obsession for young guys?

Well, it's power at your fingertips. You can control all these computers from the government, from the military, from large corporations. And if you know what you're doing, you can travel through the Internet at your will, with no restrictions. That's power; it's a power trip.

How hard was it for you to get into some blue-chip locations?

The government didn't take too many measures for security on most of their computers. They lack some serious computer security, and the hard part is learning it. I know Unix and C like the back of my hand, because I studied all these books, and I was on the computer for so long. But the hard part isn't getting in. It's learning to know what it is that you're doing.

And how do you learn that?

Oh, by reading, by talking to people. And by spending so much time on the computer, learning how it works, learning the source code and the programs and the commands.

So is it just the rush of getting in there, of doing something smarter than they do? Or did you find anything there that was of interest to you?

Generally, the thrill is over once you've realized that you're on the computer and that you can do whatever you want--but it's not downloading their information, because usually it's pointless, bureaucratic stuff you don't need to know.

Mercury square Mars

Jonathon's Mercury was in Capricorn square Mars in Libra, a cardinal and ambitious configuration. His mind needs mental stimulation, and can be active. He needed to be challenged and thrived on "beating" the system. Mercury-Mars always to needs to compete in mental competition- whether in verbal debate i.e winning the argument, or in his case putting his mental skill to the test and challenging security networks. He wanted complicated mental tets, ones that go way beyond "word puzzles" and solving "crosswords", that Mercury-Mars traditionally enjoys. Capricorn is a security conscious sign, with an efficient and organized brain, it's a placement that can do well with admin tasks. Mars in Libra can battle perceived injustices, and he challenges security and threatens the whole structural balance (Capricorn/Libra). Mercury-Mars is an aspect associated with theft and plagiarism.

Paul Jennings Hill

Paul Jennings Hill (former minister) was the first person in the United States to be executed for killing an abortion provider.

On July 29, 1994 Hill approached a Pensacola, Florida abortion clinic with which he was familiar. When he spotted physician John Britton and his clinic escort, James Barrett, outside, he shot them both at close range with a shotgun. In addition to the two murders, Hill seriously wounded Barrett’s wife. He was arrested that same day. On December 6, 1994, Hill was sentenced to death by lethal injection under Florida law.

In a statement before his execution, Hill said that he felt no remorse for his actions, and that he expected “a great reward in Heaven”. During his trial, the judge did not allow Hill to use an affirmative defense of justification. Hill said he viewed the acts as defensive rather than retributive. Hill left behind a manuscript manifesto which his backers promised him they would publish. That manifesto and his address to the jury that convicted him echoed the words of John Brown, who had attempted to incite a violent insurrection to end slavery in the United States. Hill was not apologetic for the killings, and in his last words he encouraged others who believe abortion is an illegitimate use of lethal force to “do what you have to do to stop it”.

The Astrology

The Sun in Paul’s chart is placed in the sign of Aquarius, and his essential purpose in life is to view all things impartial. Humanitarianism and making positive changes in the environment are conscious goals in life. His life centered on reforming and developing the potential of human beings. The Sun in Aquarius is in EXACT trine to Jupiter in Gemini. Sun trine Jupiter, can show a positive and enthusiastic nature. The planet Jupiter rules over, beliefs, ethics, expansion, faith, religion, and GOD. The trine in astrology (planets 120 degrees apart) are easily expressed by the individual, and Paul's beliefs and ethics (Jupiter) are self enhancing. The trine can also aid him towards achieving his Jupiterian goals involving his work with the church. Both Sun and Jupiter are fire planets and can self inflate. Hill apparently had a religious conversation with God (Jupiter in Gemini) when he was walking home, and he believed he was the soldier of God. The Sun is also in opposition to Pluto, he has an infatuation with power, and is secretive about his motives. Hill never told his wife what he planned to do, and what extreme measures he was going to take for his anti-abortion campaign. He was compulsive, stubborn, fixed and determined on achieving his objectives (Sun Aquarius and 5 planets in fixed signs). With Jupiter and Pluto on his Sun, I do believe that this man believed he had a powerful destiny (Sun-Pluto) to fulfill.

Mars the fighting principle for the Sun

Paul had Mars in Scorpio at the focal point of a t.square with Pluto in Leo, and Sun-Venus in Aquarius. Mars in Scorpio has a powerful sense of survival, and can act quite compulsively. Mars is square to Pluto in his natal chart, a pronounced potential for power, a raw instinctive and violent energy. When Paul is angered he is unforgiving, and he used underhand methods to achieve his goals. Mercury-Mars has strong opinions, and his mind is sensitive to collective/broader (Mercury in Pisces) issues. His mentality is dark due to the unconscious undercurrents connected to his thoughts and intellect (Mercury-Pluto).

Saturn in Scorpio by Alan Oken: There may thus be a very strong battle between the emotional and mental aspects within oneself. On the personality level, this often leads to some very distinct challenges in dealing with one’s sexual expression. It is through the Fourth Ray of Scorpio that harmony will have to be established out of this conflict. If achieved, Saturn in Scorpio gives the ability to release hidden strengths and resources. This position works to break down the compulsive nature of negative emotional habit patterns. In this way more refined mental structures may be built for the externalization of the Higher Self.

Archetypal Astrology

Every sign in the zodiac can be associated with a mythological story and every planet with a divine figure, a "god", with certain properties. This divine figure can appear in different guise and under different names. Thus the moon can be regarded as Hera, Hathor or Ishtar. It can also symbolize other concepts, like the womb, the World Tree and the underwaters. These symbolical figures have their roots in the archetypal, mutal layer in the psyche of Man, according to Jung.

This is how we can see that figures from mythology are associated with archetypal images and actually can be said to have an influence over us. Maybe your life has been overshadowed by a too dominant "Zeus-figure", or you might have acted out the rage of Medea at times. By drawing parallels to mythological figures and C.G. Jung´s theory of the archetypal images when studying the horoscope, your individual, mythological drama can be easier to understand in a new way that you might not have given much thought to. Racing Driver

Dale Earnhardt was an American race car driver, best known for his career driving stock cars in NASCAR’s top division. Earnhardt had four children, Kerry, Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, Dale Jr., and Taylor Earnhardt. His widow, Teresa Earnhardt (whom he married in 1982) is the owner of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., the race team and merchandising corporation Earnhardt founded with her in February 1980. Dale Earnhardt is recognised for his success in the Winston Cup Series, now known as the Sprint Cup Series. He won seventy-six races (including his only Daytona 500 victory in 1998), and his seven championships are tied for most all-time with Richard Petty. His highly aggressive driving style made him a fan favorite and earned him the nicknames “Ironhead”, “Mr. Restrictor Plate”, “The Man in Black” and most famously, “The Intimidator.”

Dales was born with Mars (agression, competitive, challenging) in the 9th house conjunct M.C, and this speedy planet is at the highest point of his chart, and represents his public image and aspirations. Astrology studies on sports people list an angular Mars on the cadent side. Mars is square to Pluto, and describes the "ruthless competitor", and intimidating competitor. Sun and Mars conjunct in the 9th house in Taurus, a self- confident and competitive individual. The Sun-Mars-Pluto combination are in fixed signs, and describes a strong determination to win and succeed, but not without it’s challenges. He isn’t likely to give up easily with his fixed personality! Muhammad Ali shares a similar combination to Mars in Taurus which is also in the 9th house. Sagittarius is on the 5th house cusp, and it’s ruler Jupiter is in Aries in the 8th house (High speed sport + death). Jupiter is opposite Saturn in the 2nd house and squares Chiron in the 5th, and Uranus in the 11th house .

Dale was tragically killed in 2001. At the time of his death, transiting Saturn was on his M.C squaring his natal Moon in Aquarius in the 6th house and forms an angular t,square with Pluto. I would describe this configuration as particularly difficult, and it affects his public image (Saturn on M.C), often Saturn in the 10th house signifies a fall from grace or the end of a career. Transiting Saturn and Uranus square each other in the sky at the time of the crash and are right on Dales angles in his natal chart (a common aspect for accidents). Transiting Neptune squares his Sun, symbolic of loss of life. Natal Jupiter in Aries in the 8th house is travelling at a dangerously high speed during a sports rally and he hits the barrier (Saturn) that resulted in his death (8th).

My Partner is Possessed

Horror films arouse such negative emotions in us, and yet it is often the favourite movie choice for dates. Horror movies project such ugly brutality, murder, and they often display the morally reprehensible side of human nature. According to a study by Zillmann on couples who watch horror together, he illustrated the reason that opposite gender pairs see horror movies is to establish a certain type of relation on the basis of “his” strength in facing horrors and “her” weakness in seeking support in his arms.

The Amityville Horror: The Ideal Marriage/The Mirror Cracks

The 7th house in the horoscope corresponds to relationships, it is the nice side of relating, being courteous and considerate, and always seeking to find balance in partneship. The house that follows is the 8th house, and it is here where all the hard core emotional stuff lurks. The 7th house is related to Libra and correlates with idealistic companionship, it is active (cardinal) cooperation with another. A relationship is often sought to gain self- knowledge by having a reflection from an objective point of view.

At the beginning of a relationship we display the Libra symbol, and we adjust to one another, and present ourselves in the most pleasant light. Our behaviour is polite, courteous and flirtatious. However, the flaw in this type of  "nice" relating is that we tend to stuff our real feelings down, as we desperately try hard to maintain the “perfect image”. Nevertheless, as much as we long for equality and to consider our partner's point of view, we also have our own individual needs (in the 1st house opposite the 7th house), and can only”adjust” for so long. At some point we will have to deal with the complex emotions a relationship provokes. The archetypes of the 8th house explores unconscious motivations. The 8th house is where all the "unpleasant" aspects of relating are reflected in our partner and also within ourselves. A real relationship needs to endure tough emotional crisis, and prentending won't cut it. The 8th house will test our emotional strength and a crisis will either bind a relationship closer together or rip us apart at the seams. For the unlucky few our relationship can literally turn into our worst nightmares!!!  And it is a well known fact that the people closest to us are the ones with the power to hurt us the most. The 8th house is where we are naked and exposed. It’s here we put trust in another human being, and it is here we share our most intimate moments, thoughts and dreams together. The 8th house emotional explosions and eruptions are not all bad, think about an orgasm and the explosion of bliss and how good it feels when you have that release. In no way, is the 8th house a "bad" house.

All Hell Breaks Loose

When a domestic battle breaks out in a relationship, all the unconscious hostility pours forth. The “stuff” we have been avoiding in a relationship for fear of conflict and separation, is all laid bare. Perhaps, the ugly face of a jealous and controlling partner reveals himself. We may find out our partner has been cheating or is unhappy in the relationship, and has felt this way for a long time. It is at these profound times that all security is shattered (8th house). During a fight we may call each other nasty names, argue, and make insensitive remarks to one another. It has been said that marriage provides the opportunity to heal childhood wounds (4th). Often Jealousy, possessiveness, and powerful emotions erupt in the partnership as a reflection of the unhealed hurts from the past looking for somewhere to surface (8th). I recommend watching the Amityville Horror to experience the dark portrayal of a partner possessed. The beautiful house and idyllic life - it’s all too good to be true….. The 8th house isn’t only connected to relationships, it also symbolises our deep rooted complexes, healing and transformation. We celebrate Halloween in the month of Scorpio, and all the ghouls, witches, monsters, skeletons come out for the night…. and we playfully let the dark side in.

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning has been a successful child actress in translating adult world themes onto the movie screen, and in believable form. If you have ever watched movies with children, and the child actor/actress even slightly smirks. it kind of ruins the whole film. Dakota is a great actress, I recently watched her on C.S.I where she plays a little girl whose entire family is murdered, and she is involved in some pretty harrowing scenes of abuse.

In one of her latest and most controversial roles she plays a young girl who is raped, and this sends her into deep depression and self destruction, which is a tough role for a young actress. Dakota Fanning has been described by critics as having an otherworldly look about her, and she is called upon to carry great weight as a child actress:

Dakota’s astrological chart has Sun, Venus and Saturn in the sign of Pisces. I think this enhances her haunting appearance, and gives greater emotional depth. The Sun is conjunct Saturn and describes a hardworking nature and sometimes serious personality. Dakota has to be careful she is not too hard on herself, overworking and not having enough time for fun. Astrologically Saturn is the planet of ambition, organization and planning.

Dakota has Mercury retrograde in the sign of Aquarius conjunct Saturn,  and she thinks deeply, displaying a cautious and serious nature; she can also be a perfectionist and idealist. Dakota Fanning played this type of role in the movie Uptown Girls - a film about a little girl who finds it difficult to let go and have fun. The youngster is extremely paranoid about germs and bacteria and acts way beyond her age.

The planet Pluto is also powerfully emphasized in her chart. The Sun, Mercury, Mars and Saturn are all square to Pluto (abuse, murder, rape, crime). Furthermore, Pluto is placed in it’s own sign of Scorpio! Dakota is channeling some pretty intense and heavy emotions. Traditional textbooks state that an individual born with Mars in difficult aspect to Pluto may be subject to violence, sexual abuse, or rape etc. Dakota has taken on the most disturbing and challenging of roles, and she has portrayed them well for a such a young girl. Some of her most intense and troubling roles which involve a father who is mentally ill, a rape and abuse victim all make heavy use of her own Plutonian chart.

Light the Way

The struggle to become whole is the meaning behind most of our existence. You have the task of developing your real authentic self, and it is your own active and creative involvement in life that will propel you forward. The “will” is a very important concept in achieving wholeness. The will can lead you towards your future development and purpose. It is the central inner force which conquers all unconscious repressed energy.

According to some philosophies, purpose is central to a good human life. Helen Keller wrote that happiness comes from “fidelity to a worthy purpose”, and Ayn Rand wrote that purpose must be one of the three ruling values of human life (the others are reason and self-esteem). Some people hold that God assigns purposes to people and that it is their mission to fulfill them. Others hold that purpose is not inherent, but instead freely chosen (or not chosen) by individuals.

Among these, some say that natural propensities may determine what sorts of purposes a person needs to pursue, but do not guarantee that he or she will pursue them, that being dependent on free choice. Self confidence and faith in our potentials, and to see possibilities, expansion and growth concerns the element of fire, and its ruling planets and houses. Take a look at your natal chart. Are you expressing all of who you are? Are you living your life to the full? The aspects to these fiery planets will reveal the obstacles that stand in your way, and who you need to be become on your path towards growth, expansion and fulfilling your purpose.

Aries: Me, Myself and I, that’s all I got in the end! Aries and its ruling planet Mars is where you will fight for what you want. It’s here where you will pursue your prize, like in Jason and the Argonauts, the mythical tale associated with the sign Aries. The battle begins, and Aries loves the quest. Aries is a courageous and enthusiastic sign, and represents a search for the self through activity that reaffirms its existence.

Mars is the macho planet associated with energy, masculinity, aggression and a competitive nature. Mars rules Aries and traditionally Scorpio, so it’s extra influential for people with their Sun or Ascendant in Aries or Scorpio. It is very strong when placed in the 1st (Aries) or 8th (Scorpio) house.

Leo rules the heart and connects to virtues such as courage, loyalty, love, and generosity. Leo represents the search for the self through the creative urge and desire to affect the immediate environment so that it reflects the individual identity of the ego. Leo is the stable centre around which everything else revolves, the sign encourages innate potential.

The Sun ruler of Leo governs our creativity, personality, ability and self expression it symbolises our true selves. The Sun is extra influential for people with their Sun or Ascendant in Leo. It is very strong when placed in the 5th (Leo) house.

Sagittarius is restless; he is a traveller keen on exploring and understanding life from a broader perspective. Sagittarius represents a search for the self through activity that reaffirms humanity’s place in both physical and spiritual worlds.

Jupiter is the planet of physical and mental expansion, self confidence, optimism, high, finance, luck, travel and justice. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and, traditionally Pisces, so is extra influential for people with the Sun or Ascendant in Sagittarius or Pisces. It is very strong when placed in the 9th (Sagittarius) or 12th (Pisces) house.
