Suicide Part 2.0

Here are the results of my small suicide study.

First I will see which signs predominate across the charts, for this I have only included Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) move too slowly and many people with have an outer planet in the same sign. All the charts which have at least one Scorpio planet will appear on the chart list. (7/20 means seven charts have Libra planets out of the 2o charts analyzed etc).

Summary of Results

A lot of the charts included where those born under the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Leo. The 33 year cycle is often focused on lessons of struggle and survival. The planetary conjunction can reflect old systems being destroyed and new ones rebuilt. Personal planets plugging in to the conjunction are highly conscious to the underworld elements in life, high defences and a feeling of powerlessness, this aspect has a connection with the fated and karmic elements in life.

The Astrological Meaning of the signs: An Emphasis on Self Transformation, and Mental Examination.

The sign of Scorpio is focused on self mastery and control, the sign has difficulty accepting weakness in themselves or others. Scorpio thrives on crisis, everything is turned into a battle for survival, and there is a tendency to feel easily threatened, and persecuted. Scorpio rules the 8th house of birth, death and rebirth. Leo is proud (like Scorpio) and the sign is concerned with self discovery, discovering what is unique. Planets in Leo work best when there is self-esteem, and the sign can express itself and doesn't feel suppressed. Leo commands respect, and hates to be laughed at. Leo rules the 5th house of creativity, how we express ourselves. Virgo is striving for perfection but can end up only concentrating on the flaws and be only too aware of imperfections. Virgo symbolises humility, and a great deal of mental examination.

Taurus and Capricorn

Less planets are found in the signs of Taurus and Capricorn. Taurus is opposite Scorpio in the zodiac wheel, and is focused on sustaining, enduring and is a persistent sign. The sign is a determined practical realist, they are more concerned with producing tangible things that last. Planets in Taurus offer a stable quality to the chart.

Capricorn is concerned with tradition (very much like Taurus) a careful sign not emotionally ruffled, a disciplined sign. Planets in Capricorn are more cautious and restrained.

The Astrology Psychology:

It would appear afflictions involving Leo (Sun) Virgo (Mercury) and Scorpio (Pluto) represent a psychological base to the chart, where there is a need to transform the personality and self image (Scorpio-Leo) and a striving for perfection, yet only too aware of their flaws. Too much mental examination (Virgo) with the inability to let go of negative emotions, and traumatic experiences.

The Experts:

In the handbook of psychology, people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, are prone to suicidal threats, gestures or attempts. The disorder is characterised by a pattern of impulsivity, and instability in affect, interpersonal relationships and self-image. Those diagnosed with BPD frequently experience strong intense negative emotions. They are unsure of their self-image, as well as their own views. Self-defeating behavior and bad decisions that destroy good relationships.

BPD

1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment

2. A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterised by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.

3. Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.

4. Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self damaging. (spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating).

5. Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, threats, or self mutilating behavior.

6. Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood. Usually lasting for a few hours and more rarely over a few days.

7. Chronic feelings of emptiness.

8. Inappropriate intense anger or difficulty controlling anger. Frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights.

9. Transient, stress related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms.

Generally the risk of suicide is greater in those with personality disorders, and these people find it difficult to work towards long term goals often a lack of inhibition and restraint (what Capricorn naturally possesses or works towards). The personality disorders are seen in younger individuals who have a 'weak ego' and a poor ability to set limits. They become bored, tire quickly, and have changeable moods and are unpredictable. There is a connection with suicide and 'crisis situations' such as, threatened losses, death of a close relative, financial ruin (Scorpio).
